Kirby Smart keeps Georgia on top, 3 reasons Bulldogs will play in CFP title game
ATHENS -- It has been a whirlwind of Georgia football filled with ups, downs and most recently confetti.

Yes Mike, I was shocked but loved hearing Kirby take the jab at Sankey. I had forgotten all the times the Dawgs have been pushed around concerning scheduling. You gotta wonder what the beef is with Sankey and UGA.
I love having so much time for players to recover from all their major and minor injuries. We should have our top 5 running backs and entire OL and DL at 100%. Also, don’t forget that Colbie Young has his hearing tomorrow. He’s missed our past 8 games and was really starting to make an impact. In fact, he was one of our leading receivers consecutive weeks against Auburn and Bama before being suspended. Colbie has been cleared by the university to practice with the team for the past few weeks. He should be in great shape and ready to play in the Sugar bowl. Now let’s cross our fingers he is cleared tomorrow and eligible to play. Go Dawgs!!!
@benzone "So, anyone's opinions of Mike Bobo changed yet? Let me remind people."
No, mine hasn't changed. He's still not very good. Against Clemson, KY, Fla, Ole MIss, GaTech , BAMA and Texas we scored a combined 32 forst half points . Let me repeat that 32 first half points over 7 games for an avg of 4.7 points per game in the first half. Yep, he's a great OC. Think any other teams will be trying to steal him away from UGA?
ANd the above was with one of the highest ranked recruiting classes comparatively each year over the last several years. We have (at least was thought of) at the beginning of the year, one of the forerunners for Heisman at QB; a dynamic couple of backs in Etienne and Frazier. A huge offensive line, and not great but serviceable receivers, and a couple of pretty good TE's.
Yeh, that Bobo's a real genuis of a OC. I used to couldn't stand JIm Chaney's play calling, but I don't think he couldn't have done any worse than Bobo has done. I believe even Chaney could have scrapped together 32 first half points in 7 games.
I hope CB is not damaged to where he can't play in the Sugar Bowl and be himself. Bobo rarely calls pass plays longer than 7-8 yards and with GS at the helm teams will load the box, crowd the line of scrimmage and stop the sideline to sideline passes which is all Bobo has in his pocket for GS. That might work if our defense balls out, but if whoever we play goes up a couple of scores it's game over with GS. At least with CB you know he's been there before and brought us back when behind late.
Love the fact that Kirby called out the SEC but I'm wondering what can UGA do in the long run? It was good/not good to re-live the goofy way UGA has been treated by the SEC but yet it still seems to continue. @MikeGriffith what, if any, are the options to have more say or at least get the SEC to listen to these valid concerns?
Great to still be playing and especially to have the SEC championship. Go DAWGS!
Add in the Vandy no show in Athens but they played the week before and after. No forfeit. No change of the schedule to make them come to Athens the next year. Just lost money for UGA.
It seems like Sankey and the SEC schedule makers went out of their way to give the new golden boy Texas a very advantageous welcome to the conference. Seven SEC teams ended up in the final CFP Top 25, and the Texas schedule only included one of the other six ranked teams: AT HOME against Georgia. Texas is 11-2 and the #5 seed in the playoffs, but they still don't have a win versus a CFP Top 25 team (0-2). Georgia's SEC schedule included games against the four highest ranked schools in the conference not named Georgia: AT Alabama, AT Texas, AT Ole Miss, and HOME versus Tennessee. Georgia is also 11-2, but thanks to an opening win against ACC Champion Clemson and an SEC Championship win versus Texas, Georgia is now 4-2 versus CFP Top 16 schools. I think Kirby has a right to be upset.
I agree with reddawg 1 re Bobo. Yes I am very aware that he’s getting votes down. But he’s still making valid points. Look no further than the SEC Championship game. Gunner comes in and first play throws a dart for about a 15 yard gain. Scrambles and hits Luckie for a huge first down. Great catch by Luckie btw. Gunner has a strong run for a first down. Drive ends in a TD. Good play calling and good execution by Gunner and entire offense. Aren’t we all thinking things are looking very promising?
Well, not so fast fellow Dawg fans. After we take that 4 point lead which is clearly the result of good play calling and execution, what predictably happens? Bobo ( and Kirby?) now goes ultra conservative, i.e., starts going into his “let’s play to not lose” mode. It was clear that, regardless of how well Gunner handled that first drive, the coaches were afraid to let Gunner do his thing. In other words, the coaches made it clear they were not willing to trust Gunner. Result: two first and goals from the four yard line result in two field goals. Why? Very poor play calling. One can assume that poor play calling is all on Bobo. Gunner is obviously very athletic. Roll him out with the option of passing or running. But no! Very frustrating.
A final point. Why did the whole team play better in the second half? Kirby said, “Our guys love Gunner.” All season long, I have wondered why this team can look great, or ok, or terrible. Could it be there is something amiss? Remember when Lovett literally turned around and shouted at Carson after a bad pass in the end zone earlier this year. I went, ut oh. Something ain’t right with the chemistry there. Could it be the guy driving the Chevy has a better chemistry with his teammates than the guy driving the Lamborghini? I don’t know, but the team “loves Gunner.” At least that’s what Kirby said.
@JBMDawg46
I'm with you on the roll out and either hit someone open or if not tuck it and run, or just throw it away. THat's the beauty of a running QB. 3 options.
THey won't allow GS to be anything more than a game manager. Which, as I stated is fine, if the game is close. Win with defense and a lot of running and a few timely passes. Just can't fall behind by much and have to depend on GS to start being CB in high pressure situatations.
Not down on GS, guy played his tail off. I just see him as a back-up QB with talent and certainly the team will ralley behind him, but he's just so inexperienced. THe great thing perhaps is I don't see a dominant team out there. Maybe with each win (presuming we do) GS gets more and more confidence, and so does Bobo with his play calling.
