Cover 5: Which Georgia assistant coach has done the best coaching job this season?
ATHENS — If you’re going to have an elite team as often as Kirby Smart has had, you’re going to need great assistant coaches.

Gonna sit back and watch the meltdown over the actual truth being told about what Bobo has had to work with this season. That being said, I am not as big a fan of Bobo's 2nd half of the SEC title game playcalling as the writers. Bobo made a couple of key playcalling mistakes at critical junctures, and UGA only won that game because of great individual efforts from players.
I believe a lot of the issues with Bobo is his history with the dawgs. I believe the OL inconsistencies in their play have lead to qb pressures and poor run blocking, which in turn looks like a bad play call. Additionally the WRs led the nation in dropped passes which put the dawgs “ behind the chains” more than any coach would like. Finally, the dawgs schedule gave plenty of talented defenses a chance to take advantage of the above issues. Granted there were many head scratchers when it came to the “ easier” games and both the offense AND defense didn’t perform very well.
The Dawgs have had to deal with KEY injuries on both sides of the ball all season (but more on offense than defense). And both sides have played up and down all season as well. The inconsistency has been astounding, BUT those injuries are a big part of the cause. I can't blame Bobo for passes dropped or Beck throwing interceptions, but I definitely have questioned some of his play calling at critical junctures. But, heck, I'm just an armchair coach. But like Mikey said, Bobo has had to deal with a very injured piecemeal offense in many games. So, I'd give Bobo the nod. But, all these assistant coaches need praise, because they all had to pick up their side of the game when the Dawgs were struggling in another area.
However, having said that, let's see how Bobo performs now with 3 weeks preparing a new QB. Gunner Stockton followed Bobo here and believes in the coach, so I'm hoping that connection and bond he has with Coach Bobo blossoms into something amazing.
The season is not over yet, so why should anyone answer this question?
let us see how the quarterfinal round and rounds after that go, then answer.
🤷♂️😎
Bobo's a liability. He absolutely lost both last year's and this year's games to Alabama with his ultra-conservative and predictable play calling.
Schumann has just been OK this year also, when you consider the horsepower under the hood of the defensive squad: lots of 4 and 5-stars there…
Inconsistency of motivation and performance was the Dawgs' biggest weakness this year. So, I believe the special teams were most consistently excellent. The best asst coach award should go to our special teams coach.
@Benzone "Bobo made a couple of key playcalling mistakes at critical junctures, and UGA only won that game because of great individual efforts from players."
I thought you might finally see the light!
THere comes a point where you don't have 7 dud 1st halfs in one year and it not be something to do with your OC. THe same players that played in the 1st half of these 7 dud 1st half games played in the 2nd half and managed to overcome Bobo's playcalling in all but 2 of those games and should have been in all but 1 of those games if the DB and safety dont have a complete breakdown.
We came back in 6 of those 7 dud 1st halfs because we had to go to a different play calling philosophy which was generally do what we do best and throw the ball. THe 1st half game plan didn't work. We saw that 7 times!
According to you're way of thinking Kirby needs to offer Bobo a raise so that no team tries to pry him away from us because he's so good!! -LOL!
While we may have no stellar WR's , we do have players talented enough to win, when put in the right position.
As far as the Texas game I thought Bobo did his best play calling in the 2nd half. THe first half was a complete dud. I watched the 2nd half as broken down by the FIlm Guy and there were plays we missed on that were wide-wide open if Gunner hands the ball off to Etienne instead of running it, or if he throws to the receiver that's wide open instead of the guy who was barely open. BUt I attribute that to the game moving fast for Gunner.
GO DAWGS!
Let’s just hope that these last three weeks will have been the collective Very Best of the entire coaching staff !! One can hope !! Go Dawgs !!
