What Mike Bobo said about Gunner Stockton, drops issues for wide receivers and the Georgia offense
ATHENS — Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo knows he is an easy target for fans to yell at.
Comments
"It wasn’t until after the game that somebody said, everybody kept saying, oh, your son with that pass. I really didn’t know what they were talking about. So it was cool to find out that, you know, it was a pass that he threw on that fake punt, which was, you know, a huge play in the game and glad he executed and didn’t screw it up. Then we’d have two Bobos everybody could yell at." (laughs)
The human side of Coach Mike Bobo.
"And I didn’t even realize the coach had said, hey, we’re going to fake the punt."
So, Kirby called the fake punt. The OC didn't even know about it. I'm not surprised, but everyone who wants to blame everything which goes wrong on Mike Bobo might be.
Go, Dawgs!
note to all Dawg fans-
James Coley has GOT TO GO. Yes, FIRED.
Look at what he has done to Georgia’s WR room in less than one season since Cortez Hankton left for the same position at LSU!
Leading the NCAA in dropped passes!?!?
And ya’ll know how it turned out when Coley was Smart’s OC for that one season, right!?!?
Here is Coley’s job description: Coley's main role at UGA will be to recruit and develop wide receivers. He's known for his ability to work with others and is considered a top recruiter in South Florida.
I guess Bobo takes no responsibility for 7 dud first half’s this season where we averaged 5-6 points per half. Why should coley get blamed for receivers dropping passes or can’t get separation if Bobo doesn’t have to answer to anyone for his offensive schemes? If the line can’t block does Searles have to answer to anyone? I haven’t heard not one reporter or beat writer ask Bobo about why this offense has been so anemic in the 1st half? Winning covers up bad coaching. If the offense/Gunner can’t get it going against Notre Dame then Bobo gets a pass again people will just say he had a rookie QB what do you expect? If however Gunner has a good game and we win who gets the credit? You guessed it CMB. We may win in spite of CMB. Good players make good plays. It’s hard to lose your job when you are a OC. You have to lose a lot to lose your job and when one of your best friends is the head coach it’s dang near impossible. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want him to be fired. I just want better from him. This team could go all the way provided CMB does his best coaching of the year. I hope he can get Gunner comfort early and get him in rhythm early with some easy passes. And not run it first and second down and ask Gunner to pull rabbits out of his hat with 3rd and 8! Go Dawgs!
IMO....What Coley did 5 years ago, has no more bearing on today's Bulldogs, than what Bobo did 10 years ago. Coaches develop and improve, just like the players. "Better Never Rests" is a true statement, not just a slogan.
However.....While I have a hard time believing, that Coley is the sole reason for the bad case of drops in Athens.....he should have found a way to fix it by now. Or at least identified the cause. That's a hard FAIL in my book, assuming he hasn't identified the cause, and fixed it....by the time UGA lands on Sugar.
I'll give all of em the benefit of the doubt and reserve judgement, till after the last whistle blows in the '24 season. Trust the process.
How is receiver drops Coley's fault? Arian just does not have good hands and he would have dropped the same passes if he was being coached by a NFL Hall of Fame receiver.
I think the key to our running game is the commitment to run as Bobo said and I would add stop running up the middle 80% of the time on first and second down.
Prediction
1st play likelihoods...A. Off tackle hand-off
B. Long bomb
Guaranteed
Bobo
Pls more tight end throws
Pls more play action, especially w gunner
Pls at least a LITTLE misdirection
Pls a screen pass or two, please
Pls throw a trick pass off that dumb wide receiver screen that rarely works
I’m gonna try hard to go into the Sugar Bowl with a positive attitude. At this moment speaking strictly For Me everybody be it Bobo or Arian or Coley has a clean slate. Just go in there and Win this thing !!
Now I’ve got a gut feeling in my very ample gut that Kirby is holding his cards really close to his chest about the Robinsons playing status. I’ve got a feeling that one maybe even Both will be available to play comes game day. IF that’s the case it would be of Big help for some of the must get short yardage plays !! Both of those guys are bulldozers !!
If we win this game and continue to win going forward, in my view it will go a Long, Long way to forgiving anything from the past. Just Win !! Go Dawgs !!
IMO…it'll become obvious, soon enough. If either of the Robinsons, can't go....Kirby will probably reassign Evans or Bell...or both.… to the backfield, in support. Doesn't mean they won't run routes, too, though.
And, I wouldn't expect Kirby to share his strategy, till after the dealings done. That wouldn't be "Smart". Lol
Seems like the Dawgs were in a similar position, recently....with the backfield being shorthanded, that is. And, had to use Bell and/or Evans, in the backfield. Believe me...they've been working on these contingencies fo quite awhile. They don't wait till it happens, to do something about it.
They have a plan. Guaranteed.
Go Dawgs....git some!
