Georgia receiver Arian Smith brings ‘win or die’ mentality to Sugar Bowl
NEW ORLEANS — Arian Smith isn’t going to let a few dropped passes slow him down.
Comments
2 or 3 Ohio State caliber routes and catches works for all of us I do believe. Arian needs to just relax on the Sugar Bowl stage, quit jumping the ball and use his hands to control/secure the ball. Smith's speed is in a league of its own.
😎
Two or three Ohio State caliber routes and receptions would work for most everyone. Arian just needs to relax on the big Sugar Bowl stage, quit jumping for the ball and control/secure the ball with his hands. Smith's speed is undeniable and makes him a potential game breaker every time he splits wide.
“even if not all the passes have been on target.”
I don’t appreciate the dig on the passing. It actually IS offering an excuse because he has dropped at least three perfect bombs that possibly shaped the game. I am not pinning everything on Smith but bad passes happen for a variety of reasons. Good receivers catch the good ones. Great receivers catch the bad ones.
Arian has the skills and the speed to be great. Stop jumping, catch the ball and have fun. Be the receiver that got you to the University of Georgia.
Take those gloves off and I bet the drops will disappear. Just sayin.
Gloves have nothing to do with dropped passes. What we have seen this year are WR's making a career decision rather than blanking out the hit they are about to take and concentrating on catching the ball.
The good news is that the coaching staff is stressing that now is the time to lay it all on the line. Do you want to be a champion or are you in it for the money? Hopefully, we will see the guys really going after the ball and focusing on the catch. Having a new QB really forces the WR to lock in on the ball. The ball comes in differently. Different velocity. Different rotation. Different angles. It is almost like relearning to catch the ball. Catch reset. Should benefit the WR's concentration.
OT. Interesting developments in the TP regarding WR's and TN. 6(!) TN WR's have entered the TP including Squirrel White and former Parkview 5* Mike Mathews. And we all thought that TN and Heupel's O was WR heaven. Confirms what I suspected. Iameleava is more Joe Milton than Henden Hooker.
OT2. UGA has had 1 WR (TEdwards) exceed 1000 yards receiving, in a season, in its history. Former UGA WR Jackson Meeks went over 1000 yard receiving for the season for Syracuse yesterday. Hate to think that taking Colbie Young cost UGA Jackson Meeks.
Agree with many of the comments here. Arian just needs to calm down don’t jump at the ball, and don’t try to run before he’s secured the ball. Can he ?? Yes I think he can.
This is much more mental than physical. Like Bobo said he’s got a set of eyes and he’s got a set of hands. Look the ball in, catch it, tuck it or if you rather use the word secure it, Then run.
I’d dearly Love to see Arian have a break out game vs ND and set the stage for more break out games as the Dawgs move forward. AND hopefully that would be contagious to the other WRs to do the same. Arian has probably had the most drops but others have dropped the ball to.
But I hope our running game is So powerful passing the ball will be limited anyway. That’d sure be nice !! Go Dawgs !!
@87dawg You caught that too, right? It was just flat out untrue. More evidence that leaving Athens was the right thing for Beck.
@UGADad20 The Syracuse offense was a strange story this year. Where their starting RB and TE were known quantities coming into this season, their QB and the top 3 WRs had massive career years. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain it because those guys are probably going to use their big years to jump to the NFL.
