Sugar Bowl provides updated game time for Georgia-Notre Dame game
NEW ORLEANS — The Sugar Bowl has provided a further update regarding the status of Thursday’s game between Notre Dame and Georgia.
Comments
This was a tragic day for New Orleans visitors and a UGA student. The student is still under medical care I believe. There is said to be more than one perpetrator involved. I still am jittery about holding the game tomorrow. God help us! What a nightmare. Good that all the players are safe.
Safety first decision bot after that it is good to see networks and committees make a call based on what's best for players and fans vs strictly $$$.
Off topic but Oregon getting found out as I suspected they would.
I saw a report that Kirby's Dad fell on Tuesday in front of the team hotel. He's in the hospital and getting hip replacement surgery. Ughhh. Guess the times aren't stressful enough. I've been through this with my parents. Not fun. Speedy recovery Mr. Smart.
@zonadawg61 Thx for that info. So sorry to hear Mr. Smart is going through that. 🙏 for a full and speedy recovery for him. This will make it even tougher on Kirby as it’s extremely hard to just set aside thinking of your loved one to do business as usual. But I’m sure that’s what Mr. Smart a former coach himself would want Kirby to do. Sure would be Great if Kirby could give him a Get Well gift in the form of a Dawgs win !!
@GBAL You are absolutely right !! There’s not enough $$$ in the world to make it worth while to jeopardize people’s Lives for the sake of a football GAME. As a life long Dawgs fan I fully understand the disappointment. And I realize people have allot of time and $$$ invested. But this gives law enforcement more time to better sweep the stadium and surrounding area for IEDs.
Plus it gives them time to develop better plans to beef up security. At this point None of us as fans know for sure whether this Evil man was acting alone or if others are involved. Law enforcement at this point seem to be taking the abundance of caution approach. As well they should. What’s already happened is absolutely horrific. We don’t want or need another incident. Now let’s hope our Dawgs smash them green people !! Go Dawgs !!
@navydawg It's been a crazy year for sure. I'll say it again, thank you for your service. So hard to go to bed in a celebratory mood and wake up to the horrific tragedy of a nutcase. I hope the Dawgs can pull it out, but football seems pretty inconsequential at a time like this. You and I have some hash marks in this world. Wish I could buy you a beer. Always enjoy your positive posts. Best to you and yours.
Aw Man !! Thanks my Brother !! And Thank You for your service !! I feel the same way about you !! I always enjoy your comments to. Like you I think you can be positive and realistic at the same time.
To many times I pour To Much emotion into this Dawgs football we love so much. As it is in the end a Game. But people like You are one of the reasons I love it so much. Dawg Nation not just this website but Dawg Nation as a whole is like a gigantic family. And sometimes we fight among ourselves like families do.
Like most Dawgs fans I was/am disappointed that the game had to be postponed. But I honestly think it’s for the best.
This gives law enforcement more time to better prepare in many ways. As the news trickles out it’s starting to look like this Evil perp might not be alone but part of a group.
So in my humble opinion it’s better to postpone and err to the side of caution than just go on and have possibly hundreds or even thousands killed and seriously injured by an IED !! No amount of $$$ will bring back a loved one !! I wish You and your family a Very blessed and great 2025. Go Dawgs !!
You know, Navy.…I understand where you and @GBAL are coming from. I personally, wouldn't want to risk anybody else's life, either.
That being said.…we CAN'T let a terrorist win. It encourages more terrorism. And, I'll be yeller-**** if I'm gonna allow them to make me cower in the corner and dread. If we do that...they win.
If I were there...I would go....and, I would encourage other fighting-aged people to go. Stand tall and be worthy, would be my first reaction. We can't let them think their actions hit their target...."our will to exist".
They want to weaken our resolve. Tenderize us before calling the soldiers that slipped through the Southern Border, "To Arms" and destroy our infrastructure with a targeted cyber attack. Take us without firing many shots.
I would laugh, but, it's not funny and it's been happening right before our eyes for quite some time. It's been like watching a train wreck in slow motion and waiting for all the passengers to wake up and do something to save themselves.
I don't think the game should have been postponed at all, unless there was no way possible, to set up a perimeter around the Dome and do a detailed Sweep of the premises.
That may be foolish and a bit naive....but, it's NOT a losing hand. There's reason behind it. We are in a war of "mind and will", that we barely understand.
Bottom line is....whether they play today, tomorrow or next week. The threat will always be there. And, if the perpetrators are Kamikazes....nobody is safe anytime. It's just that simple.
God be with the People of our Nation....particularly the Citizens of Las Vegas and New Orleans.
To all…..once again we are reminded in the most graphic and violent means, we live in a sinful, broken world and there is only one salvation….5 Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free. 6 The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? 7 The Lord is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. Psalm 118: 5-7
I pray for GOD'S LOVE, in which HIS strength defeats all evil…..for all of DAWG NATION as well as for the NOTRE DAME NATION. I pray for a game played in safety for all. I pray for a game without serious injury to any of the student athletes. I pray for the competitors to play at their very best and that the BEST TEAM win this competition. I pray THANKS to GOD, my FATHER, my SAVIOR for the blessings that always out number the evil I am surrounded by.
I pray HIS healing Grace to Sonny Smart……..GOOOO DAWGS, SICEM…..WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!
You stated some thoughts I had out of Many thoughts I have. @GtheGreek Your comments walk hand in hand with @BigDawg61 Both lines of thought are directly linked. Along with mine and @GBAL lines of thinking. Read my next comment if you will.
First thing Happy New Years to All of Dawg Nation not just this website but All of my fellow Dawgs fans !!
I have some thoughts I’d like to share about these troubling times we are living in. We live in a Free Country so far. People have the right and should do what’s best for them and their families as long as they stay within our laws it’s their choice.
My advice is free for you to use or discard as you see fit. My very first advice is very well outlined by @GtheGreek I strongly advise put the Lord as very first in your life !! He conquers ALL Fear !! Turn to Jesus Christ the Lord. But that to is absolutely Your choice.
One of the greatest if not The greatest gifts God gave us is good ole Common Sense. This country Forever changed on 911. Permanently. We do not have the luxury of being Totally carefree, innocent and naive. But at the Same time we cannot live in constant fear. As @BigDawg61 well stated if we live in constant fear we are already defeated.
Law Enforcement cannot be Everywhere and All the time. That is simply unrealistic. I salute them as by and large they do a Great job but again ultimately Your survival rests with You.
As a Christian ( although certainly not the best example) I have spoken countless times with pastors and leaders of various churches and asked as a Christian is it OK with God for me to defend myself and family/loved ones even with deadly force. The resounding answer I’ve gotten from every single one is Yes you can and should defend yourself and family/loved ones. Again God gave us Common Sense.
There by many years ago both my wife and I got our concealed carry permits. And for our age we are both pretty proficient in the use of firearms starting with Safety. And not just our own safety but people around us. We know not to just open fire in a crowd of people !!
When you are out and about you Need to have good awareness of the environment around you, NOT Fear but Awareness these are Very different.
Regarding our law enforcement I Hope and Expect them to use Common Sense coupled with their training and rules. And as a tax paying citizen will hold them accountable when they don’t.
About postponing today’s game. I think it was a Wise move and only Hope it’s enough to prevent any further troubles at This time. The Reason I say this is in this particular situation the attack is SO fresh and it’s Very possible this was not a lone wolf incident.
This said NO I would Not cancel future events on hear say or rumors or even Maybe. If there are hints that threats are possible or even worse prominent then Security could be beefed up. In those you have the benefit of Time. Plans can be enhanced and changed if necessary.
But as @GBAL and I were saying This Incident is to fresh with Very Little time to enhance security and plans. They needed ( might still) need Time to sweep the stadium for IEDs.
In future events where there are massive amounts of people, Time is your best ally. So speaking For Me I understand and appreciate the Why of postponing the Sugar Bowl.
Lastly if you live in a Rural area with a small population Do Not be lulled into a false sense of security NO you don’t have to live in Fear. But you Do need to practice Awareness.
All these things are My take on life and survival. I share them with Yall in a spirit of Love. And I’m talking Across to you not Down as if your less than me and not Up as if your superior to me but Across as with a great friend.
May the Lord Bless & Protect you All. I Hope and Pray that 2025 is a Very Blessed and Great year for you All !! Now Go Dawgs smash them little green people !!!
Well to clarify, my real line of thought was…. Yes, the game had to be delayed initially, but if the powers determine that there is no obvious eminent danger the game should go on ASAP. I was really praising the decision makers for pushing the game up until 4:00 vs remaining at 8:45 EST. The UGA-ND winner was already at a bit of a disadvantage with Penn getting what amounted to 3 days extra rest prior to next game. Pushing the game up 4 hours will help a bit with the travel and rest prior to Jan 9.
Again safety first but after eminent danger is removed, do what's best for players and fans vs network $. And in this world, danger is never completely removed. Agree we cant let terrorist WIN!
Exactly. Well said. Once any eminent danger is resolved then by all means Press On !! But until they were Sure that any remaining danger was resolved and as the incident was so fresh. I think they did right to postpone the game for a time. And yeah 4PM is better than having to wait a full 24 hours. Go Dawgs !!
