Georgia looks to buck slow-starting CFP bye-team trend in Sugar Bowl
NEW ORLEANS — Kirby Smart has watched the on-field concern he has about his Georgia football team being ready to start fast play out in the three other quarterfinal games in the College Football Playoffs.

Yes, Dawgs could have their hands full today if they don't start quickly and aggressively. With Gunner at the helm, we don't want to try and play catch-up by falling behind too much.
Ohio State looks like I thought they would at the beginning of the season. Very impressive. They are playing their best football of the season after manhandling the Vols and Ducks. Chip Kelly has perplexed defenses, and Will Howard and company are ripping up the field.
And just like during the SECCG against the Dawgs, Texas showed how limited their offense is once you stuff their running game, and the Sun Devils did just that. Unless Sark can figure out a way to win the LOS (not likely), the Buckeyes could easily steamroll the Longhorns.
The Buckeyes are the team to beat for the Natty, and it's honestly theirs to lose this year.
We'll see how the Dawgs look in the post season which may be like a new season. It seems like a new season for THE. Perhaps it will be for Georgia.
Go, Dawgs!
Yep. Took em 13 games, but they're finally looking like the most expensive roster in the sport.
MontanaDawg—-"The Buckeyes are the team to beat for the Natty". You are so correct. The Buckeyes'defense last night was dominating. Through much of the game, Oregon looked lost and couldn't generate any offence. I was expecting a close game—Ohio State has got some studs.
IF UGA starts slow today it will have nothing to do with having a bye and everything to do with what has plaqued our slow starts all year. Mainly play calling and execution of those plays. Some people argue our talent at WR is the blame. OK we don't have a Jeremiah Smith or a Golden like Ohio St. and Texas do, but we have players who performed great in HS or else they wouldn't be playing for us now. We have supposedly the best FR RB in the country coming out of HS and a transfer RB that will in all probability go in the 2nd round. We have a huge offensive line and we have played all of those slow starts with a QB who was the odds on favorite to be drafted as the 1st or 2nd QB at the start of the season.
So what gives? As the OC I have got all this talent available to me and it's my job to make it work and to put players in the best position for them to be successful. I get paid a million dollars a year to do that. If our OC was the boss of some Fortune 500 company and at the end of the year the board reviewed his job performance unemotionally what would they say?
Would they say great job! Here's your annual raise? We all know they wouldn't. Not saying he would be fired. BUt there would definitely be a need's improvement mandate. You can't just blame everything on the players and not having Bowers and McConkey. Any ole OC with any experience at all could coach with those guys out there. Go Dawgs!
@reddawg1
My only question with Bobo is why is he so intent on running up the middle on first down 95% of the time? As there was a 3rd and Grantham moniker years ago where he was going to blitz 95% of the time on third down, there should have been a 1st and Chaney with a run up the middle 95% of time. Bobo has morphed this year into 1st and Chaney. Running up the middle against a stacked box can be productive but it is much harder on 1st down when the defense is expecting it. Having a consistent 2nd and 9 will make for a slow start for the Bills and Ravens, let alone a college team. As unpopular as this is to say, an equally harmful reason for slow starts is Beck's interceptions early in possessions too. The bottom line is coach better and play better.
@KBP
Yeh the knock on Bobo was and is predictability : everyone knows what he's going to call before he calls it. If the fans know it then so does the opposing coach.
I am reading all of the comments about Bobo and the offense, but seriously, this season has proven that if the defense can come out on fire and dominate the line of scrimmage and get after the QB, the offense doesn't need to be that dominate. Georgia proved that against Texas in the first game they played. Beck was throwing 3 interceptions in that game and it didn't matter because the defense was playing lights out. Stop the run and contain the QB and the game is over! GO DAWGS!
@GoodtimeDawg:
The knocks on Bobo always ignore the same sets of facts.
Just a couple of thoughts, just my humble opinions I’m not saying I’m right about Anything. But the Dawgs have only lost Three games in two full seasons and post season play up to This point. So although I To get frustrated at Bobo at times if he were That Bad would we not have lost More games by now ??
Also by and large our Defense has been pretty good over this same span of time, But they have had their breakdowns to.
IF our Dawgs lose this game unless he’s utterly s t u p I d with the ball Id ask people not to be to hard on Gunner. Three weeks is not nearly enough time to prepare for a game like this. Some will say Yeah but he’s been in the system for almost three years. Well he wasn’t practicing with the Ones exclusively all that time. He Has gotten the lions share of time with the Ones now out of pure necessity.
Kirby knows what he’s doing but I sure wish he’d Try to get backup QBs more time actually Throwing the ball in garbage time of some cupcake games than merely just handing the ball off. But I guess he has his reasons.
I Hope Both our Offense and Defense come out Very aggressive in this game !! On Offense throw the ball down field some right off the bat even if you miss you might draw a PI ( Yes I Know there’s a possibility of an INT sometimes Good things involve risk) but it’ll make the ND Defense have to respect that possibility and not crowd the box.
On Defense don’t play the soft cushion almost prevent like D we’ve seen, become the rival WRs shadow !! I know the old adage comes in Live by the blitz and Die by the blitz. But I’d rather Die trying to sack the QB than I had a Slow Death being picked apart. Don’t let him be comfortable back there GATA !!
I can almost guarantee that ND is gonna come after Gunner with everything but the kitchen sink and I bet nearly every passing play. They’re gonna see if they can rattle him. SO our O Line needs to have their best game.
Lastly Throw the ball to Delp and Luckie more often. Luckie in particular has good hands. Delp is hard to tackle after the catch. Put Peanut Phillips in the backfield and Throw him the ball, kid has blazing speed !!
And let’s Hope the Dawgs excel at the usual plays they make. If we can get a strong and consistent running game going won’t have to throw the ball that much taking allot of pressure off Gunner. Dawgs Will win this thing !! P. S. Gargle, spit, repeat, forget all the stuff I’ve said here and Trust Kirby, his Staff, and the Team !! 😀 Go Dawgs !!
