The TD scored on the defense was all on the offense, mainly the play call and the pathetic whiff of the offensive line. Defense gave up 3 FGs, enough to win a game like that. The ref that threw the flag on sideline interference was embarrassed and mad, so he threw the flag. The head ref should have conferenced with him and said a warning should be given instead of a penalty. The ref was too close to being off of the white sideline anyway. That play and Etienne’s first ever fumble gave Georgia only 3 points out possible 14 points and control of the game.
I know Kirby won’t make any staff changes anytime soon because of his dad’s passing, still praying for his family, but Booboo and sorry Searels needs to leave or be demoted. The game has passed by Booboo, and Searles wasn’t that good under Richt and hasn’t gotten any better. Those two are the main reasons the offense floundered this season. No rushing attack dooms an offense. Coley probably won’t go anywhere now since the two usc players committed, but he is not a good coach, good recruiter, but not coaching material.
Stockton played well enough to win the game, but had no support from his offensive teammates. Poor coaching, play calling, execution, and discipline lost this game. Both team captains had critical penalties in the game as well.
We never found or developed consistent weapons on offense this season. If Bowers and McConkey had played in this game, I think we would've very likely pulled it out. They're lighting up the NFL because they can be counted on to make big plays when they're needed. This year, we were lucky if our receivers didn't drop uncontested throws.
It was frustrating because it seemed we could see what was possible all night. I think we were going to attack downfield a lot - and it seemed to be frequently open- but the OLine got whipped by undersized dudes who just wanted it more. So as far as targets go, Bell probably got more because of the routes he was on, hot routes, since there was rarely time for Stockton and the WRs to push downfield. And of course, he was on the ground quite a bit.
Exactly. It became extremely risky, to attempt a pass play that took over 3 seconds. Hell....one of the fumbles came on a run up the middle. Hit by an unblocked LB, that just about took the handoff, himself. Lol.
Bobo and Co. had to play it conservative. They did, what the offensive line allowed. That's just NOT UGA Football.
The million dollar question for 2024, is....."Why has the Offensive Line regressed so much, between 2022 and 2024?".
If i had to venture a guess….it would be, that Searels' and Coley's style doesn't jive with Bobo and Smart. Searels is known for using faster, lighter, athletic offensive linemen. But…unless I'm mistaken…that's not the type of linemen, UGA's been signing.
And, the receiver room, could use a complete overhaul. Starting with Coley. Btw....who Coaches Special Teams "Kickoffs"? Curious.
That's what stands out to me, anyway. I could be completely wrong. I 'spect time'll tell. Lol
Go Big Red '25! Git some more!
NO EXCUSES. The team that played the best on Thursday won the game. And there is no need in talking about "If this," or "if that." There are no "ifs." So, Cash Jones had an injured shoulder. That same shoulder was injured when he caught that touchdown pass so, again, NO EXCUSES. That's what other teams do when we kick their butts. We had our chance to prove ourselves on Thursday and we blew it. Period. We could all see the reasons why, because we've been seeing them all season. Also, I disagree with @MikeGriffith about his point that there was no reason to think the OL wouldn't hold up on that **** sack of Stockton. Sure there was. In the Dawgs' previous two games, the OL failed to hold their blocks and Carson Beck was hit hard while attempting a deep pass (we know what happened to him the second time). By then, the coaches should have sensed a trend. Two final points while I'm ranting: Smart was NOT caught off-guard by Notre Dame's punt-team trickery in the fourth quarter. He and the coaches got our first-team defense back on the field and in position in plenty of time. It's just that Jalon Walker inexplicably jumped offsides, despite being coached EVERY WEEK to stay in place. That wasn't on Smart. And secondly, the refs definitely should have issued a "sideline interference" warning to UGA instead of a 15-yard penalty. The referee wasn't knocked to the ground or injured, nor did he lose sight of the play. I haven't seen an actual penalty on that call in about 10 years and even then, it was because the team had been previously warned. This was a big playoff game. A kid got a little excited (he wasn't even that far into the restricted area) on a big play. Some common sense discretion should have prevailed there. Go Dawgs!
We need "elite" coordinators and not just players. How many years does OFF COORD BOBO need to show CKS that he is NOT "elite" like TODD MONKEN and STEVE SARKISIAN types?
Why as UGA abandoned using FBs to opening up crushing holes for their RBs which has historically been the great running game tradition? It definitely shows in the wasting of RB talent at UGA forcing the RBs to rely more on their talent alone when the OFF LINE can't do their jobs against "stacked" DEF LINES when the QBs have a poor receiving corps and they know UGA can't throw it consistently.
You sure don't have to worry about other teams luring him to be their HEAD COACH…
It became obvious that Carson Beck has a much quicker release than Gunner Stockton.
Has Gunner's pass release always been that deliberate? With even a decent OL, he is going to get hammered countless times with that release.
Just sayin…
Frasier? 4 carries for 37 yards. ETN, 11carries for 38. Great article. Big miss.
