Georgia didn’t win it all, but an SEC title still is a big deal
You know you’re an elite program when an SEC championship is viewed as not enough.

Excellent synopsis, can’t say that I disagree with anything.
Nice job summarizing this past season, the best that I’ve read….also, prayers sent to the Smart family as well as their friends.
Go Dawgs!
Good article, Bill.
In some respects this was "not a very good Georgia team" meaning not very good compared to the recent national championship teams which most of us would acknowledge as great teams. The margins between good Georgia teams and great Georgia teams are thin.
I tend to agree with my old friend, Mark Symms. I'd say this team never quite got it together, never played a complete four quarter game, never quite gelled in terms of the fundamentals. When one looks at great teams, everybody blocks on most every play, very few tackles are missed, most passes are caught, unforced errors are infrequent, etc. Considering all the mistakes we saw on the field of play, the 2024 Dawgs overachieved.
From another perspective, given the talent level on the team, and its potential, the team very much underachieved. Either that, or should we accept that without great players such as Brock Bowers, and players with "the it factor" such as Stetson Bennett, we don't have much of a chance? It could be argued the Dawgs underachieved, but I see that perspective as a stretch which means I agree with Mark about the players's achievement. I don't think it's on the team members.
In my opinion, the coaching staff underachieved big time.
Yes, I'd rather have Kirby Smart than any other head coach, but I believe he needs to revamp his coaching staff.
Jim McLaughlin is right: “Games are won or lost in the trenches.” There were times during the season where perhaps our offensive line problems were due to injuries, but that argument stinks when applied to the Sugar Bowl. Our healthy and very talented line simply played badly. It was whipped by guys who had no business taking our guys behind the woodshed. Aren't problems of that sort squarely the responsibilities of the coaches?
I could not hear the television announcers well enough to know this myself, but folks have reported the announcers were calling out our offensive plays before the ball was snapped. Upcoming plays also too often seemed too obvious to me. Perhaps a change in that department should be considered?
How do we account for the final seconds of the first half and the first few seconds of the second half? Is that not on the coaches?
I am not terribly disappointed by this season. Going into it I had my doubts. Great teams have great players. Would Carson Beck be a great player without Brock and Ladd? I do wonder if we could have done better. Going into the season most pundits, commentators, and Dawg fans certainly thought this team had an unlimited ceiling.
My feelings and thoughts about 2024 are mixed. Winning the SEC Championship is always great, but…
Go, Dawgs!
Considering how bad we played this year it's pretty impressive to win the SEC and make the playoffs.
I'm optimistic.
I'm sorry but I can't let Bobo off the hook. 1st, all the coaches that you and others referenced work for the OC. It his his responsibility to analyze their performances and take those responsible to task.
About the game, anyone who has just a passing knowledge of football knew how ND was going defense GA, pack the box, stop the run and blitz like crazy on obvious passing downs. ND had 8 to 10 players within 3 yards of the line the majority of the game but Bobo made very few adjustments. His most disappointing action is his nearly complete abandonment of having the QB under center which limits play action which is what's needed when playing a very aggressive D. With agreesive D's you go up tempo, you move the pocket, motion, quick throws on slants and crossing patterns, remind the qb he can step up in the pocket. Use Etienne's pass catching talent which Bobo has barely used all season. Opponents have continually mentioned how easy it is to tell what play is coming. Ever see Bobo put Etienne and Nate in on the same play? He's abandoned Jumbo packages on short yardage that Monken used so successfully. Yeah, of course we can't blame Bobo for any of this. And one other thing except for his stints at UGA, He's been fired fron every job he's had since leaving Richt's staff. Finally if your coordinators and position coaches are not being pursued by other programs you know the're not very good.
