There was a fairly prolonged stretch of the game, I think in the second quarter, where when LA had the ball, pretty much every play the announcers were calling either McConkey's name or Lassiter's.

And James Cook just got in the endzone.

Wow, such a DGD. I cannot imagine how badly the dawgs would have whipped Bama the last time we played them in the SECCG if McConkey and Bowers had been healthy. It wouldn't have been close. So glad the two of them are tearing it up in the NFL and setting records! It would have been NICE to have sent Saban to ESPN with one more loss to the dawgs! LOL

Ladd the Impaler and Brock “The Matrix” Bowers really did spoil us.

I remember coming to a game right after Ladd had had a particularly bad day against a nobody team and one of the ladies saying something like “I hope butterfingers McConkey doesn’t get many targets today,” and being really disgusted. He got several targets that day, though. Gained a lot of yards with them, too 😀

I said nothing, which is not particularly like me (I’m a teacher, and a well-seasoned one; I’ll call out just about anyone if I think it’s warranted (often to my wife’s chagrin (though she did have some strong words for some obnoxious young women at the Tech game this year))), just let the success speak for itself.

@truthteller It would have been better to have WR depth in 2023 than having Bowers and McConkey healthy. The reason is that Bowers and McConkey would have gone on to NFL stardom and millions after 2023 regardless. The WR depth that UGA needed to beat Alabama in 2023 would have gotten UGA past Notre Dame and Penn State and given them a shot against Ohio State this year. So as great a story as McConkey was, it also shows how WR recruiting at UGA has been a real problem. What you want is to find guys like McConkey along with the 4 and 5 star recruits that you expect to pan out. Instead, McConkey and Bowers - the exceedingly rare TE that is able to lead a title contender in receiving - played such a big role precisely because UGA wasn't getting competitive talent at WR, and the same is true of 3 star AD Mitchell.

That's why people who criticize the playoff committee for not admitting UGA in 2023 because "with a healthy Bowers and McConkey we're #1!" were off base. The playoff committee knew that unlike Texas, Washington, Bama and even Michigan, UGA really only had 2 guys in the passing game (and also didn't have much going on at tailback either unlike those teams) so if even one of those guys didn't heal up as expected - or simply got hurt again - then UGA would have had no shot.

I miss watching Ladd and Brock on Saturdays. That may sound selfish, but so be it. Glad you two are having great starts to your pro careers. I hope you both have a very long and successful run!! DGDS
