The lessons Georgia football has to learn from Carson Beck’s 2024 season
ATHENS — Carson Beck entered the 2024 season with Heisman Trophy, national championship and No. 1 overall pick aspirations. He will do so again in 2025, just playing for Miami instead of Georgia.

This offensive unit will stand pat if changes aren’t made to the offensive staff as well. The O line coach needs to step down immediately. He was awful under Richt and hasn’t gotten any better. If Kirby keeps Boo-boo as OC, he needs to find a top notch analyst and make Booboo listen to him. If those two staff positions don’t change in some way for next season, the offense still won’t be any better. It’s critical that it is because we lose a lot on the defensive side of the ball. They won’t be able to bail us out like they did in some situations last season.
I think that Bobo has a mindset of the past and no imagination for the future as far as play calling. Not using his TE's, not using the RB's but up the middle, no long balls. Time for a change as OC, Kirby has got to realize that friendship is great but has no place on the field and especially now with NIL. This is a football factory like it or not. Make a decision win games or keep your friends employed. GO DAWGS
Bobo has more football in his pinky finger than most will ever have. If his O line is clicking and there is some threat of a downfield passing attack he puts up 40 plus. There isn’t a play you can call that can overcome poor blocking. When Pittman and Luke were coaching the line you didn’t even notice when the 2 deep was in the game, some games the second stringer would be more effective. That falls on Searles not having that group prepared. With the athletes on that roster there is no excuse. I’m sure he’s a good dude, but when your guys have enough time and energy to podcast and be social media influencers you just aren’t getting enough football out of them, and that’s a problem. The game is won or lost on the O line, period. The season is only as good as that room.
Good offensive synopsis Connor. I think you hit on the most important points. We had the worst offensive performance that I've seen in many years during 2024. There were multiple factors contributing to this offensive drop off, but injuries is something every single playoff team has had to deal with and work through. So let's call that reason a wash. The rest of it has to do with coaching, poor execution, mistakes, and not enough true leadership. Unfortunately, it happened during the toughest regular season on record. Rinse and repeat next season. The limited use of our TE group baffles me and cannot continue if we want to make it into the playoffs. Just look at the TE production from most of the teams in the playoffs, and it shows how important and powerful this position has become.
Searels and Bobo have their work cut out for them this Spring and Summer. It may be do or die for both these guys by the end of the season if they can't transform the offense.
Mike Bobo has 1-2 years left….depending on when Drew leaves for the NFL. 2025 is the time to bring in his replacement and there is not a better choice than Buster Faulkner…..BF brings a level of creativity that will accentuate Gunner's rushing ability, the RB's rushing, TE use which will alleviate pressure on our outstanding WR's…..positive offensive plays can only help our O-Line improve, emphasizing technique, strength and quickness…..I see our D is loaded with train wrecking havoc DADDIES…allowing true competition for starting positions will allow the "cream" to rise and motivate every member from line to back field.
Whoever you are—vote me down again, but a starting OL that includes an unimproved Freeling and Greene does not bode well for our running or passing game. We need offensive linemen that fit the standard of '21 ,'22, and '23 to be a true competitor for the Natty.
"We've got to find ways to move the ball on the ground?? Seriously? How long has this guy been coaching? DId he not look for "ways to run the ball" this past season? Is that something he will start doing now? Where do you find these"ways" at? Walmart? Aile 7? Do you go to a coaching clinic and find them?
THat just seems to me like he's trying to find the Holy Grail. It's out there somewhere, we just have to start looking?
Does he mean he needs to design new run plays? THe old ones didn't work?
Does he mean get better blocking up front? Can he even pinpoint the problem? He makes it seem so mysterious.
Interesting article.
What I get out of all this is Coach Mike Bobo can identify the problems all of us can readily see. The question is whether he can fix the problems?
Go, Dawgs!
Faulkner is not going to leave an OC position to be an OC in waiting for 2 years.
Connor do you have information that indicates that Searels will be staying on staff?
Bobo and Searles got to go
That 665 yards number is weird. Weird because it’s only true if Beck did not complete any other passes on the drives where they were involved, which I highly doubt.
I don’t like to down-talk, but I don’t think replacing Yurosek is going to be a problem at all. It seemed like it took the dude half the season to figure out the playbook, and he didn’t add much directly once he did. On the same note, I don’t see Beck realizing any of those opening aspirations at Miami next year, either.
In the end, most of what’s in this article has nothing to do with learning from Beck’s year. It’s all pretty standard end-of-year fare.
Man, I feel like a bummer on this one.
To some extent drops are overrated. Every team has them . Texas had several in that first game against us . I don't think anyone blamed their receivers for the loss, maybe I'm wrong. When you factor in 13 games and one team has 13 more than the next team , well that's an average of only 1 per game. Drops can be like fumbles, you may fumble but you fall on it, no harm no foul excpet for the potential yardage you may have missed out on. Your receiver misses a layup but your team goes on to score anyway. It's the turnovers that kill you. Some drops affect the game more than others. A 4th and goal with time running out to win a game and the receiver drops the pass is way worse than a drop in the 1st quarter that didn't affect the outcome. What's worse than a drop is a QB missing a wide open receiver that could have been a TD or move the chains significantly. What about when the QB doesn't see the wide open receiver in the endzone and checks down to a RB who gets stopped for no gain and you have to kick a FG? You just lost 4 points? It happens. More often than people realize . Is there a stat for QB's who miss on wideopen passes or miss seeing the best reciver option? It's all part of the game. I don't recall any UGA receiver missing an important game changing pass except for Cobie Young never leaving the ground in the BAMA game or knocking it out of the defender's hands. THat was a costly one. He didn't help CB. BUt it went down as Carson's fault.
