What a shocker! Did we really need to be told this?
I've read the spring game is April 12.
What does this say about the present and future of Georgia football? What needs to happen in order to get back on top?
Georgia being only one spot ahead of Arizona State really sticks in my craw, but I can't argue with the top 5, which were Oregon (13-0 regular season with wins over 3 playoff teams Boise, Ohio State and Penn State plus #16 Illinois), the two title game participants plus Texas and Penn State teams who won 2 playoff games (though I don't think a whole lot of the 4 teams that Texas and Penn State beat, with one of them being Arizona State).
I have also said that UGA's schedule was overrated as the SEC wasn't that tough, but I have to recant. UGA played #4 Texas in Austin, #4 Texas in Atlanta, #9 Tennessee, #11 Ole Miss at Oxford, #14 Clemson in Atlanta, #17 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Add to that 8-5 Florida, Auburn and Kentucky teams that would have been bowl teams in the ACC or Big 12 and a Georgia Tech team that made beating Georgia the goal of their entire season and yeah, this year was a nightmare. The SEC office owes UGA an apology.
How do you explain a team that Georgia beat twice (Texas) is ranked ahead of them.
How does Texas finish two spots ahead of us? SMH
Seconding the comments below. It's comical to see the Dawgs ranked two spots behind a team that finished with the same number of losses, owing to the fact that Georgia beat them twice.
@dawgfromduluth
All UGA needs to do in order to get back on top is:
Good news: Kirby Smart seems to have changed his approach to WRs. Look at the 5 WRs in the recruiting class plus getting Thomas and Branch from the portal (especially Thomas, who unlike UGA's previous portal WRs is a productive starting split end). Bad news: only 1 RB recruit, who Rivals deems an all purpose back, and 1 RB , also an all purpose back, from the portal. While the portal opens up again after spring practice, it looks like UGA is going to have a lot riding on both Nate Frazier taking a huge step from year 1 to year 2 and both the Robinsons getting healthy.
A good start to giving relevant and correct analysis. Well done.
Consistency is right around the corner.
OK there’s been much ado about the SEC not being as strong as it normally is. OK conceded. But our Dawgs are IN the SEC there for they play the majority of their games within the conference. The rankings AT THE TIME the Dawgs played them On The Road in most cases should have been factored in. Putting TX over the Dawgs is complete and utter bias and frankly absurd. MY rankings:
1)Ohio St. 2)Notre Dame 3)Oregon 4)Penn St. 5)Georgia The Dawgs beat TX in their home stadium then again in the SECCG thus the Dawgs won the Conference Title
I don’t care about how people think the SEC was weaker this year. There’s no way in HE double hockey sticks that TX should be ranked over the Dawgs. Yet another Obvious tact that ESPN who basically controls the AP rankings is Openly biased. Wrong is always Wrong and Right is always Right. And This my fellow Dawgs fans is WRONG !!!
Good comments. I agree with you here and would only add that in addition to any high quality WRs and/or RBs that might be available I hope he beefs up the Defensive front. AND in a private office meeting with Coach Searls concerning the O line I hope he tells him I want Results, No excuses.
It’ll be a difficult challenge for Searls as he had much more experienced players to work with in 2024. So he’ll be tasked with doing More with Less, but that’s why these coaches get paid so handsomely.
If he can’t do the job make it easy on Kirby and Resign. Let’s Hope there are players in the April portal that will Want to be at UGA whole heartedly.
Couldn't agree more….it's all about STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE…..the most important point the "committee" failed to recognize….I'll wager that had The Dawgs played a cupcake schedule like ND or TOS, essentially 12 practice games, before playing legitimate competition, The Dawgs would have won another Natty….likewise had ND or TOS played the Dawgs 2024 schedule, neither would have made the play offs.
To "FIX" things for next year, a SOS format needs to be implemented to determine weekly rank. At the end of the regular season (conference games count) the teams ranked 1-12 go at it…1 v12, 2 v 11, 3 v 10 and so on…..interesting to note that Vegas places 10 SEC teams in the pre-season top 25 for the 2025 season and only 5 B1G teams make it …..It's all about SOS!
OSU and ND were the two best teams in the country and their NC game showed it. The past two years the Dawgs OL line performance has slipped from "elite" (whatever that is) to average. The OL lacked consistency. It adversely affected both the running and passing aspect of their games. Yes there were too many dropped balls by the receivers, however, some of those passes were hurried which probably contributed to some of those drops. The running backs did not have consistent lanes opened up. Etienne's decision to hit the draft was probably affected by the mediocre line play and the battering that he encountered. Take the money while you can and not risk further injury. We've got decent QBs, runners and receivers, but we don't have the OL play that we need to compete with the OSUs at this point. The other negative offensive factor is the predictable Bobo play calling. Bobo is a decent OC, he could be better if he would mix the play calling up more. The wide out screen pass is overused. Until we get the OL improved we will remain in the second five or below.
UGA should've been ranked 5th and UT (Texas) 6th based on two factors…. SEC champs and two wins over UT (on Texas home turf and in Atlanta)
You think 2024 was a mind blowing hard schedule and a mind grind for us Alums and fans….wait for 2025 season to kick in…. This season is about to be even harder than anyone realizes… You tell me what player on our squad puts fear in any team we face outside of the cupcakes?…none
