Why Georgia football roster still has moves to make for 2025 season

I wish Smart would leave the QB room alone. I don't think anyone was excited about Rashada coming in and clearly he just wasted a year being with the Dawgs. We've never really had success with a transfer QB (JT Daniels did well and I guess you could classify Stetson as a transfer) and instead we've seen to have overcrowding in the room. It's not like WR (which actually DOES have a lot of bodies now) or RB where you can give numerous players numerous snaps. QB is a strategic decision and it's best when we invest in a commit from HS that is a die hard Dawg. Puglisi should be coming along at this point and Montgomery has been on campus for a full year now.
Obviously, biggest concern is OL. What doesn't Smart talk about that?
Here's a repeated thought O line O line O line. At least put as much focus on that as bringing in the 7th QB
Hope UGA'S in line for a good LT, if not the QB, well we seen what happened.
The idea of bringing in a veteran QB with game experience who is willing to be 3rd string/Scout Team Captain is highly unlikely. Veteran QB's with game experience aren't leaving their current programs to go into a new situation as a backup.
You brought the quarterbacks here because of their abilities, at least I would hope, so you solve the experience problem by getting the backup some reps. You do that with a strong offensive line so THAT should be the focus. Especially given how pitiful they were this past season.
I agree with @kirkhilles, Rashada was a total waste. That is mostly on him as he made a terrible career decision but we just did not need him. We already had a strong starter and a very capable backup with talent, albeit unproven at the college level, behind them.
I disagree. Rashada had a very valuable year honing his game against one of, what was expected to be, the best defenses in the country. Practicing in one of the most intense and challenging practice environments in the country. No matter where Rashada plays in '25 he will likely not face a defense as good or as fast as what he is accustomed to playing against after a year at UGA. A year practicing at UGA has developed his game and slowed down defenses to the point where he can start and play well for most programs in the country.
For UGA, it got an evaluation year of a 4/5* reserve QB with a high ceiling to ascertain whether Rashada was worth future investment in the player. Rashada brought more experience to the QB room than the other QB reserves. That was insurance for CKS/UGA.
Rashada/UGA was a win-win for both. That alone makes UGA a good destination for a QB with some experience and multiple years of eligibility that finds they will not start after spring practice.
UGA needs an experienced QB on the roster. IF GS gets hurt early in the season there is no QB left on the roster that can compete at an SEC level. With the '25 schedule as soon as GS gets hurt the year is over.
For those calling for OL transfers. Really? Who do you think you will get that is better than what UGA has? UGA is LOADED with BIG players that have been working in the program for multiple years. It sends the wrong message to those players to bring in players over them. Especially what would be inferior players. Other than C UGA has at least 8 players that can play well currently on the roster. Don't expect any OL adds in the TP. Keep an eye on OT Marcus Harrison in '25.

The South Carolina Gamecocks football team has added several offensive linemen from the transfer portal, including
Boaz Stanley and Nick Sharpe.
Boaz Stanley
BAMA lost 3 OL to major pro.grams. Reckon they might be any good?
The OL who we will have for 2025 couldn't beat out the ones who just left, The ones that just left for whatever reason couldn't get the job done, mixed with what we still have that started a few games. WHy wouldn't you better your team if possible? Don't want to upset the applecart? Might hurt some feelings? THen don't bring anyone in.
I thought Kirby was trying to win NC's not trying to sing KUmBAYA.
Kirby has stated many times that he wants 4 scholarship QB's. He needs that many to run full practices and scout teams. Also, Montgomery has NOT been at UGA for a full year. He just got here in December 2024 and he is still rehabbing from knee surgery this past fall and may not be a full participant in spring practice.
Georgia isn’t just looking to take a body to take someone. It wants a veteran with some starting experience, given the state of Georgia’s current quarterback room.
Yeah … why would someone with starting experience enter the transfer portal only to be a career backup at UGA? It would have to be someone from a smaller college who knows that the NFL isn't a realistic ambition but wants a UGA MBA. Otherwise, UGA's best option would be to go the JUCO route.
Just my humble thoughts here. I don’t think it’s the Players on the O Line that’s the problem. I think it’s the Coaching. They are being taught the wrong techniques. These were high quality players out of HS. Kirby needs to imo Demand Much Better from Searls or say Bye !!
The Defensive front and RB should be the emphasis of the TP. We need more quality beef on that line.
As for RBs I like @benzone has a good idea that if none are available hit the JUCO ranks. There are some very good players in the JUCO ranks if the coaches/recruiters are careful in their selections.
Assuming Gunner will be the man Pugs needs to get on the field as early as possible vs Cupcakes or Any game where the score it pretty comfortable. And let him Throw the ball not just hand it off..
The numbers at WR have increased and it Seems that we have some good players there but I hope the WRs Coach will groom them up to the highest possible level.
In the end though the vast majority of Offensive success rides on the O Line. I’d dearly Love for Coach Searls to make me eat crow, I like a little salt, butter, and pepper on mine !! Go Dawgs !!
navydawg…Bingo! I agree wholeheartedly that coaching is is the problem with the Dawgs. I believe with all my heart both Searls and Bobo need to go! So tired of the bubble screens that aren’t fooling anyone! Go Dawgs!
