No 5 star QB is going to come to Athens to go through what Carson Beck endured, which is a head coach that only consistently prioritizes recruiting tight ends, leaving the offense with no WRs capable of making plays, and then low key throws his QB under the bus when things don't work out as a result. Oh yeah, and have much of the fanbase scapegoat you and root for the backup too.

Kirby has been in Athens 10 years. In that time he has yet to put together back to back seasons with an offense that a blue chip QB would want to play in and has yet to produce a high draft pick at QB or even a QB that gets drafted later and develops. 5 star QBs can go anywhere. Smart has to give them a reason to want to come to Athens. Lately he hasn't given big time tailbacks a reason either.

I am going to repeat: 5 star QB recruits saw Carson Beck ruin his draft status because of WRs who couldn't get open and catch the ball and an ineffective running game. Then thanks to the Hail Mary play call he gets hurt and winds up not being able to enter the draft at all. This was a weak QB draft year so the conditions were ideal. Next year he will have a lot more competition. And where Smart did everything possible to defend Beck's predecessor, he blames Beck for his own injury and lets everyone know - off the record of course - know how allegedly angry he was that Beck chose rehab and getting ready for the draft over "staying with the team" (to do what, exactly) when he hasn't said squat about other players whose playing days in Athens are done doing the same.

So who is going to be the next QB with NFL potential to get in line to experience the same from this coaching staff and fanbase? Here's reality. Kirby needs to produce good offenses and NFL draft picks with 3 and 4 star QBs before a 5 star QB comes to Athens, especially if he is out of state. Or even if he is in-state from Atlanta, whether the city or the suburbs.
