ATLANTA — As Jack Sawyer made his way through the Ohio State championship locker room with a beer in one hand and a cigar in the other, a group of reporters hoped to talk to the defensive end.

We'll have to wait and see if we have that guy in '25. Bell is a very good player, but he also has made a lot of mistakes. Walker was the closest guy on defense this season. Maybe Bolden next season? And Bobo hasn't used our TE room enough for me to think Delp or any of our TEs will be that guy unless Bobo changes things up. A lot of potential on our roster, but also a lot of inexperience.

And I honestly don't think Beck was or could've been that guy this season. He didn't seem to have the kind of respect from his teammates or leadership qualities that Jack apparently did.

    Monroe Freeling !!

“This past season, Carson Beck became that Sawyer-esque face of the program for Georgia.” Surely you jest! Did you watch the same games that the rest of us did. Until the Tennessee game he was clearly not emotionally invested in team or teammates. There were numerous times before that game that when flushed from the pocket and running that he could have stayed on his feet and run through defenders for a first down and all we saw was that awkward looking diving short of line to gain. Instead of encouraging receivers who were struggling, he routinely displayed his frustration with facial and body language. When not in the game we routinely saw him sitting by himself looking disinterested, and we all remember him “chopping it up” and laughing with his “bestie” Jaden Rashada at Ole Miss (bestie was Beck’s mom’s description in her statement defending Carson after Ole Miss debacle). Interesting to note that Rashada - who was heavily recruited, and had 4 starts at Arizona State, had been listed at number 3 for most of the season but was passed on depth chart by Puglisi at the end of the season. Got to believe that some of this was related to attitude, and I am reminded of the old saying “birds of a feather flock together”. Beck has talent, but to say he was Sawyer-esque for his team - not even close.

He never was fully vested imo, more of a "me" guy.

I can remember his very first start against UAB when he threw an interception. He watched the person intercepting run right by him with no attempt to tackle him…Beck just walks off the field laughing, insert Stetson and the rest was history. Just like you, I saw him laughing it up on the sidelines after turnovers this year also.

Personally, I'm glad he is gone, I certainly wouldn't want a teammate like him…and if I were to guess, there are probably a few/bunch of his teammates that feel the same.

Give me someone that would come to battle with you every day & every play - give me a "Gunner Stockton".

I'm glad CB is gone, good riddance.

Monroe had a bad game, it happens. He played well in prior games. Thinks he will eventually become an outstanding lineman.

I agree. Freeling is a very good OL. It wasn't completely his fault, wrt the sacks in the Sugar Bowl. It was obvious he was getting beat on the left side. Against a very good defensive front.

IMO....He should've had help on that side [QB's blind side].…or, scheme the offense around it. The left side was a problem for the Dawgs.

Personally...I don't understand why the OC didn't notice it by the first sack. Unless...they did notice, but, had no answers. Sometimes you gotta take the bad with the good.

If I had a vote for "Mr UGA 2024"....it would go to one of the top performing walk-ons....Dan Jackson, Chaz Chambliss and/or Cash Jones come to mind. Nobody ran away with it.

Jackson would probably be my top vote...just based on consistency and Dawg'ed determination. He made the most out of what God gave him.

The three players on offense mentioned would have to improve light years to be championship caliber. Along with the left tackle. The OL played poorly against every decent DL they played , including UMass. Ole Miss flat out embarrassed them. Lot of change up front on OL if Dawgs are to contend going forward.

You're not wrong. The offensive line was a disappointment.

I don't doubt their talent and commitment. And, they are pretty much on par for a UGA O-Line unit, in size and speed.

So, the problem must lie in the coaching. Searels style, just doesn't fit with what Kirby wants to do as a team.…IMO. He's too "finesse oriented"...for lack of a better term.

This is gonna be Bobo's year. Do or die. He recruited Gunner Stockton when he was in Carolina. He groomed him, when he came to UGA. THIS offense is gonna be all-Bobo.

I can't wait to see what he does with Gunner, and the rest of the offense, in 2025. I'm pulling for him. The '25 UGA offensive scheme will change a little bit, with Stockton behind the wheel. It'll probably look a little more like the Stetson Bennett version with more designed runs and bootleg passes…IMO.
