Ah Yes, the key…offensive consistency with a whole lot of creativity……BUT FIRST, you got to do the three basics at a proficient level working weekly toward ELITE, Block, Run and Catch the **** ball…..all that points to LEADERSHIP, as in a "Field Commander", usually the QB, someone with the will to win, not allowing occasional missteps to derail the mission, someone holding everybody accountable, someone encouraging and supporting. This was an exceedingly tough task given the schedule we played in 24. A monumental task to "Get Up" for every game knowing that no matter who we played, the competition was going to give their best effort…to beat the Dawgs was equivalent to a successful season….Fatigue and Lack of Leadership kept us from playing for another Natty….GOOD NEWS though, we'll have that leadership in 25…..Gunner and Pugs are both made of the right stuff, they are "Georgia Guys" and given the proven talent, potential talent and the blessing of more HOME games…..our FANS/Dawg Nation second to none…..I'm almost as optimistic about 25 as I was for 22 & 23!
I predict Bobo will be a Broyles finalist in 2025.
Even if we go 0-12 this season, and have the worst offense in the SEC, Kirby Smart will not fire Mike Bobo. Now, Bobo MIGHT VOLUNTARILY QUIT, but Smart will never actually "fire" him. Their friendship goes too deep. Searles is a different story. I think this is his "put up or shut up" season. In fact, I can see a scenario where Searles gets fired to PROTECT Bobo from the same fate. We'll see. We definitely needed better wide receivers and we got them (although I don't think the Branch kid is all he's cracked up to be. I'm thinking closer to Demetris Robinson than George Pickens). But it's going to take more than just improved receivers. Our offensive line MUST open more holes, for longer periods. All of our running backs will have to step up (Etienne should have stayed in school; he'll be on somebody's taxi squad) and Stockton will have to grow up fast. I'm hopeful he's the answer because I know Puglisi is not going to get a full and fair chance to start. So, Stockton will be out there for better or worse. Hope it's not the latter. Go Dawgs!
Coaching performance is a growing concern, particularly its impact on recruiting. The decommitment of the five-star quarterback from Nashville is a major blow, and it's fair to question how much the mishandling of the Beck situation played a role in his decision.
The 2025 recruiting class, currently ranked No. 3, reflects a slight but noticeable decline—we’re no longer competing for the top spot. The slip is also evident in NFL draft results, and coaching is a key factor. Elite recruits prioritize programs that maximize their earning potential and fast-track their development into first-round draft picks within two years. Simply put, the Nashville quarterback isn’t willing to wait three to four years to reach the NFL.
I have to play devil's advocate. Bobo, while not creative, is hard to blame. Searles was not effective with the O line. But, Coley was horrible with receivers. The returning receivers did not have those drops with McClendon as coach. There were times where it looked as though Beck was throwing to a spot and the receiver was in a different spot. The interception at the end of the Alabama game looked like it was supposed to be a back shoulder throw, but the receiver ran a fade. I may be wrong but it looked like the coaching with the receivers was the problem. I don't think that Beck took that much of a step back. I get as frustrated as anyone with Bobo's play calling (too predictable at times) but he had no help from the offensive assistants
Connor,
What in the world is this sentence supposed to imply? “Ron Courson has transitioned away from his role as the program’s head athletic trainer.”
Ron Courson, by all accounts has been an excellent athletic trainer for UGA for many years, and a renowned leader in his field. You seem to be suggesting, that the trainers who provide care and rehabilitation for injured football players had something to do with our offense’s decline in performance this past season. You also seem to suggest that Coach Smart forced him out of his position, and based on all the articles I read on his promotion to Executive Associate Athletic Director, I don’t believe that was the case. He served the football team admirably for over 30 years, and I gathered that this was an opportunity for him to step away from what I imagine was a pretty consuming grind.
At times last season, it seemed our offensive line was getting pushed around, but I would think that would generate scrutiny of the strength and conditioning staff, but not the athletic trainer. If you know something we don’t, please enlighten us, but otherwise I think you owe Ron Courson an apology for this “throw away” line in your article.
I'm not happy that Clemson got Matt Luke.
How could anybody vote down "ChawlieDawg88"? Did you not watch the Tackle play from last season?
Mike Bobo's friendship with Smart seems to trump everything. "Oh, Bobo knows the Georgia culture." So what? Todd Monken came in not knowing anything about Ga. culture, and he won, and won decisively. It is unfair to the team, and unfair to the thousands of Georgia fans to continue with Bobo because of friendship. Smart's blind eye is a detriment to the team.
Bobo may be a great guy, but he has proved over and over that he has no creativity and his play calling is so predictable that opposing teams hone in on it. Talking about tough schedules, injuries and such, is just skirting the issue. I will always remember the championship game with Alabama when Bama was on the verge of losing. Saban pulled Kalen Hurts, his starting quarterback for the entire season, and put in Tua Tagovailoa. Smart would never have done that. Loyalty can be misplaced. Unless Smart can make the tough decisions, he will never be equal to Saban.
Kirby's gone out and got WR help, but can our starting QB get the ball to them is the bigger mystery. Stockton is not a top tier SEC QB.
