“I don’t think there’s any way we can do a 16-tam playoff if they’re not at nine (games), Bielema said. “We voted unanimously as Big Ten coaches to stay at nine league games and actually maybe have an SEC challenge.

Hey, I've said it before and I'll say it again…..fans would love a 9 game schedule as long as the ninth game is cross conference between the SEC and B1G…..B1G comprised of 18 teams, 2 ligit yearly contenders, 2 occasional contenders and 14 cupcakes….the SEC is comprized of 16 teams, 5 ligit yearly contenders, 10 occasional contenders and 1 cupcake….looks like a plan to me!

I'm good with an 8 game SEC schedule, but the conference should make a stronger rule that teams must schedule 2 OOCs from another PWR 4 conference. Teams could then have two money games with GRP 5 or FCS teams to allow chance for lower roster players to get experience, and help, for the good of the game, the lower schools finance their programs. I'm not interested in an exclusive SEC/B1G set up. I'd much rather see us play Clemson, FSU, ND, Ok St or select other ACC/BIG12 of our own choosing, than Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois or some other lower level B1G school. Sure, the games against upper B1G teams would be great, but, by having a set cross conference agreement, the scheduling could be out of our own control. Finally, being a USAFA grad myself, I'd love to see an occasional service academy visit Athens.

Good with the eight-game conference schedule. Would rather leave opportunities for big national games or games against regional opponents ex. Clemson, VA Tech, FSU, UNC.

Maybe the big 10? should be made to play another power 4 team like the SEC does instead of all of the sisters of the poor teams they play. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

Bret Bielema was 3–9 (0–8 SEC), 7–6 (2–6 SEC), 8–5 (5–3 SEC), 7–6 (3–5 SEC), 4–8 (1–7 SEC) at Arkansas, that's 29-34 in the SEC, not even .500 ball, but wants to Bragg about beating South Carolina in a bowl game, when he couldn't even win in the SEC with an 8 conference Schedule. lol

I'm in agreement with the consensus here. If you have 9 conference games, that means every year 9 of your 12 games will be from the same pool of 15 opponents. Year, after year, after year. And it would only further incentivize programs to round out those last three games with pushover payday matchups. It would get stale, and the sport would become more siloed than it already is.

As others have mentioned, the solution to ensuring a regular season full of interesting games (aside from turning back the clock to before it was watered down by playoff expansion) is not expanding the conference schedule; it's to require more P4 non-conference games.

Dawgs don’t pay attention to the opinions of a coach that was fired from the SEC [Arkansas] in 2017 after going 4-8 [including 1-7 in the SEC]. Maybe he should spend more time trying to identify a mascot for his current team.

Of course the Big 10 wants the SEC to play as difficult a schedule as possible. As if its not tough enough already. If the SEC played a 9 game congfernce schedule now, the Big 10 would then probably vote to play a 10 game conference schedule LOL.

Half the Big Ten IS the little “sisters of the poor”. Bielema would love the SEC to beat itself up more with a nine game schedule while the committee all but ignores SOS. Opens the door for his second tier team to get in the playoffs.
