My first Georgia game in person Greg Talley was the QB. Was supposed to be the next Buck Belue. Which I guess he could've been but there was no #34 behind him to hand it to.

Day game Sanford Stadium. I remember walking across the bridge the first time. Could see the field. Not sure if you still can. Field was so green. Something about those Red tops and a green field that just seems perfect.

Preston Jones came in for Talley after we got a big lead. Threw a long TD pass he had an arm. Temple fell to 0-9 that day.

Sadly most of my memories from those days were in Jordan Hare. All my friends were Auburn fans and it was the mid 80's. So I would get asked to go when they played Georgia.

Auburn always won. I hate Auburn more than any other team to this day because of it. Riding home with all those drunk Auburn fans jovial because they had beat my dogs again created a sense of hate I dont feel for any other team. Even Florida.

Cant comment on taking a kid to the game. Other than just let them be a kid and take it all in.

I am trying to plan a game for my son, it would be his first game. He is a Halloween baby, so every year we have a birthday party & GA/FL get together. Typically, we paint our back yard into a football field, complete with endzones painted for each team, divide up the kids and have a GA/FL football game, with yours truly as all-time QB - that way the Dawgs always win!!! I thought it would be an epic trip to take him to the GA/FL game as we are closer to JKSV than Athens but am unsure if would be better to have his first game be a regular home game. I know the GA/FL game gets pretty wild, so that is where I am stuck on what would be best, anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

Alabama is a "regular" home game. Try that? Or try one of the early season patsies for a thorough @ss whoopin'.

Fifty-five years ago. I remember that as just a seven year old boy, way back in September of 1970. At the time, I didn’t really understand the game of football yet..I was just so very excited to drive with my late father from Atlanta, over to Athens.. I was absolutely overwhelmed once we got inside of Sanford Stadium. The place was packed, everyone was dressed in red and black, and I was having the time of my life. The opponent: The Clemson Tigers. Then GEORGIA ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED CLEMSON THAT DAY.

FINAL SCORE:

Georgia - 38

Clemson - 0

My first game was so very wonderful, and awesome, incredible, impactful, and glorious, and it really changed my life for the better in so many ways, and my lasting heartfelt memories of my entire childhood with my wonderful “Daddy” who has now been passed away nearly ten years ago.

My suggestion? Go to the “classic city” in Athens for his first game, then work on going down to the “cocktail party” in JAX afterwards. GO DAWGS!!!

PS - What a lucky kid your son is!!!! Awesome parents!!!!

Our kids childhood happens only once, and the memories are forever.

Thanks for sharing and expressing what that experience meant to you. I imagine as you were typing you were able to relive that experience in great detail in your memory and reflect on so many things in life. Memories have a way of growing and becoming more significant and meaningful as the years go by, often we associate all types of different things to that memory. Just like a favorite song you haven't heard in forever, how it can instantly take you somewhere that you associate with the song. Thanks also for sharing the photo, I see you are carrying on the tradition on strong. GO DAWGS!!!

Great idea but I would have to withdraw from their college fund to get 4 tickets for that game. I'm eyeing the Ole Miss game; we are going to be in the mountains that weekend and it seems like the best time to make it happen.

I was 12 years old and was already hit hard with the fever when I was surprised with tickets from a family friend who had season tickets. First game was Arkansas 2005. The experience was cloud nine the entire time. Looking into the stadium from the bridge and hearing the band play as the dawg walk took place on a crisp October morning will always be imprinted on my mind. The seats were directly above where the Dawgs came out of the tunnel at the time so you could practically see the thread count of the jersey and every smudge mark on the helmet as they came out. It was a surreal moment because I remember for warmups I received a head nod and finger point from the likes of Greg Blue, DJ Shockley, and Danny Ware as they were walking back in the locker room from warmups. I was rallying the troops like I was in my living room haha. The game itself required my voice as Shockley would go down early and the Dawgs had to hang on to a 23-20 win against Darren McFadden (thank God he was only a freshman). Ironically , I ended up getting tickets the following week in Jax, but nothing compared to the first trip being between the hedges. I have a 6 and 3 year old now and I can't wait to have them experience it all for the first time whenever that day may come.

First night game I've been able to attend at Sanford and had food poisoning. I told my wife I would have to be dead before I missed that game. The only time I felt half way decent that day was from the 2nd half to the end. Was also my oldest son's first trip. What a game to be at. 8ot nailbiter against the gnats. Miserable trip back to Ohio on Saturday but we'll worth it. 3 hrs sleep before heading out. I would do it 100 times over though.

I'm sure it made a big impression on my son too. He grew up with Aussie rules football and never had a chance to go to a game before this. Ended up giving me a great Christmas present because of this game. We took a picture together at the end of the game with the scoreboard behind us and he got it framed for me.

A “back in the day” genuine magazine cover. (A “real” actual PRINTED MAGAZINE!!!, and it’s not in a digital format) … those words written on that magazine cover printed way back then, they just might mean even more today right here, and right now in the year of 2025, than they did printed way back then!!!
