Georgia football fall scrimmage one: Mixed bag, per observers

ATHENS â Georgia held its first fall scrimmage on Saturday, and according to reports from some of those in attendance, it had a typical look about it.
Comments
we were in Athens today and heard Kirby getting onto players about their playing.
Scrimmage was a oood tune- up for UGA. FYI…Marshall has a new coach and faces a complete team rebuild. UGA should throttle them?
we should. If we don’t it’ll be indicative that not much has changed. Gunner should be cutting up on the sideline midway thru the 3rd quarter.
Puglisi played much better yet the narrative is that Stockton with his handful of plays over the last 4 years has a better handle on the offense. Y'all are trying too hard to will him to being the better option. Ridiculous!
Pugs is the better QB. He’ll be starting by mid-Oct. Don’t get me wrong, I like Gunner a lot. But he’s simply a good back-up. At least at this level. Reddell will emerge as the best TE.
I knew we could count on you to come bash. Let’s see Gunner has had 83 real game collegiate snaps verses Pugs having zero. It would be virtually insane for KS to start Pugs over Gunner. Also go take a look at Pugs HS record vs Gunner’s HS record.
To be thrown in the fire in the SECCG Gunner did pretty well all things considered. MOST Dawgs fans saw the same thing I saw vs ND, and that was the O Line letting Gunner get slaughtered and receivers dropping the ball. This was a scrimmage, as the article said a mixed bag. Unless you’re a pro scout or coach I doubt you or any typical Dawgs fan could make Season Long predictions based on this scrimmage.
Now these things said I have absolutely Nothing, Zero, Nada against Pugs. In fact I happen to like him. He has Huge potential. But the pure Fact is he has Zero college game experience, Less alone SEC experience. Gunner set State Records in HS. He was ranked #7 of ALL HS QBs. Now these things said IF and I say IF Gunner stinks it up as bad as you seem to think he will then Yes give him the bench. Bring in Pugs and more than apt chalk up a losing season. Pugs is not ready for SEC level play right now. Repeat Again I Like Pugs, I Like All our QBs but the reality is Gunner is vastly more experienced.
And was/is a pretty dawg gone good QB coming out of HS. Go on the internet and look up Gunner’s stats vs Pugs stats. I can’t wrap my head around folks who want to fire Gunner before the season even starts !! Incredible !! And Loony to !! 🤪
No sarcasm as unlike CDDawgs you were at least civil in your opinion of Gunner. But I like to ask what facts and information do you base your opinion on ? Gunner has 83 collegiate snaps, Pugs has zero. Gunner has been at UGA much longer than Pugs. Also if you go to the internet and dig up their Individual HS stats you’ll find that Gunner has the better stats.
Pugs has Never thrown one pass against Any college team less alone SEC team. But in your opinion Gunner will be fired by Oct. ?? If that happens it will be the worse recruiting miss on a player in the Kirby Smart era !! AND it’ll probably mean a losing season for the Dawgs as Pugs is just realistically not ready for this level of play. And No One could knock on Pugs for not being ready yet. I certainly wouldn’t.
If Gunner gets seriously injured ( wouldn’t put it past old CD to be praying he does !!) then Pugs will Have to come in. Now I believe Pugs would do a Very Good job within the scope of his experience. But unfortunately that wouldn’t be enough vs SEC caliber play. I don’t understand all the mistrust and angst against Gunner ? His O Line and receivers failed him badly vs ND. Yes he’s thrown some INTs. But every QB that played at UGA did that, including from Matt Stafford to Aaron Murray to Carson Beck and Yes Gunner Stockton !! Unless he really stinks and stinks consistently Gunner deserves the benefit of the doubt. He waited his time and I’ve not seen him lose a game where the loss fell squarely on him. Let’s wait and See what he does in a SEC game. That’s the fair way.
Gunner has been on the team a long time, longer than Puglisi, prepping as he was the starter the whole time. It is Gunner's job to lose. Odds are against it but, if he does not get the job done then Puglisi should get a shot, if the coaches think he is ready and will not turn the ball over. Gunner is a winner. If he wins, then there is your answer.
A certain person on here made a snarky comment to BigDawg61 about his reading comprehension . Well apparently that snarky person might need to brush up some to. From the article: Quarterback Gunner Stockton made some nice throws, according to onlookers in attendance — the media was not allowed to watch first-hand — but it was the case of another slow start and the first-team offense struggling to get into the end zone.
Also from the article: Stockton is the more adept of the two running and knowing the offense, and also offers the ability to extend plays and make yardage on the ground when needed.
Funny thing NO WHERE in the article does it say Gunner did a poor job. Also NO WHERE in the article does it say that Puglisi did a “better” job.
In fact per the article the QB that made a highlife showing was Montgomery the supposed third string QB. Bottom line is some folks just enjoy controversy. And one person in particular likes to criticize someone else’s reading comprehension when by all appearances HE didn’t comprehend. Until and really IF Gunner stinks it up He Deserves the spot as he waited his time. Bashing on him before the season even starts is both ridiculous and childish.
What I saw….I'll bet the ranch, the best **** defense in D-1 by seasons midpoint….offenses will always start slower, until the oppositions defense is understood….as far as Gunner & the QB room…..it's like we're playing 5 card and I'm holdin a potential Red Royal Flush….I discard the Joker from last year….it doesn't matter who I draw, they're all Aces with Heart!
Sad to say, this has become one of the most contentious posting boards I can ever remember. Unless some of us have been at fall practice, I can't see how any of us can say who the best QB is. Let's let the season determine who deserves that honour.
I know BA wanted to hear the offense whipping the defense but I personally loved hearing about our defensive line being troublesome for our offense.
That’s been the key ingredient when UGA was dominant over the past 20 years.
Go dawgs!
Fire, passion, and energy!
Can’t wait for that opening game!!
Absolute truth, and we'll spoken!
