Kirby Smart supports widely expanded College Football Playoffs âif done the right wayâ

ATHENS â Kirby Smart embraces college football traditions as much as anyone, but the Georgia coach supports the concept of the 24- and 28-team playoff model recently pitched by the Big Ten.

64 teams with 4 pklay in games should cover it…
The FCS has a playoff of this magnitude (24 teams) and starting this season they are encouraged to play 12 regular season games (the max allowed). Most FCS teams already play 11-12 regular season games. SO, I don't see what the big deal is when it comes to wear and tear and more football games. It's been happening already in the FCS for years. So that argument is mute.
The cons with so many teams in a super-expanded playoff are that the Bowl season outside the CFP will become even more irrelevant unless you start using those secondary bowls as playoff venues. However, most folks think 1st and maybe 2nd round playoff games should be played on campuses. I wholeheartedly agree. Along with that expansion, we should simply get rid of Conference Championship games if we go to more than (16) playoff teams. Automatic byes for the Top teams and seed the remaining according to final CFP rankings.
This is all about money, and we all know it. Accept it and continue to support college football with the potential of more games and better matchups, or quit your complaining and simply stop tuning in.
I got an idea....Let's just skip the season and go straight ti the Playoffs. What's the point?! Lol
In fact....why don't we just pay the best 44 CFB Players to line up against each other on New Year's Eve...and call it a day. Amateurs my asssss!
This is about Entertainment...."Us". We pay the dollars by purchasing streaming packages, paraphernalia and plane tickets. We are the source.
I agree....if it chaps your butt...stop supporting it and complain to your Congresssmen and State Reps, that you don't think professionalism belongs in our University System.
Time to pay the Scientists and Researchers, that devote personal time to projects.....the money they're owed. If their work is proprietary and exempt from additional compensation...then an extracurricular activity is certainly exempt from compensation. I guess...I don't get it. Lol
Bigdawg61, I like your idea. Better yet, why don't they rank all the teams and bracket the top 128. Then #1 plays #128 down through all the teams. The two left at the end will be in the championship. The losers in the early rounds can start their school's BBall seasons. 😡
Lolol…heck...why not! At least that's a system that speaks to the demand. Although.…I can't exactly say, I'd look forward to seeing UGA play South Dakota State. Lol....and you know Daggone well, they wouldn't want to face UGA.
UGA could go ahead and accept everybody's forfeit and just wait to see who they'll play in December.
I have been ignoring all games that don't have the UGA Bulldawgs playing in them. I never watched the NBA and haven't watched the MLB nor NFL in years.
Yep....I'm with you. "Money" made all those institutions....NFL, NBA & Boxing, "boring" compared to what it once was...and, imo...irrelevant to great competition. Too susceptible to corruption....BECAUSE of the vast amounts of money involved.
Imo...All of em have watered down the rules to "enhance the fan experience". The NFL is a mere shadow of it's better days. May as well put Flags on, and call it a day. Lol....or go to a 7 on 7 model.
As far as MLB....I loved to play the game. Loved it! But....Baseball....has always been boring to watch....to me, anyway. Especially, if the game is meaningless.
Lol...Been a lot of "those", for the Old Skool Braves Fan, over the years. Particularly prior to 1990. Since then, though....can't complain. I've seen some Great pitching out that organization since '90 and Bobby Cox's 2nd tour of duty.
Post '90....The pitching, made the Braves, "worth watching". I think, that's how a lot of CFB Programs are approaching the game, now....."Create a Fan Following using Flash & Circumstance", With a freak player on Offense and Special Teams.
Defense is boring. Lolol....hence....The Dawgs get overlooked every year. Cause, very few of em, really understand the defensive side of the ball. I usually agree with Roman Harper.…but, he's one of a small group, i trust with analysis.
It's not about wins, anymore for the vast majority of CFB Teams....it's about Entertainment, Clicks, Followers and Financial Contributions. It's a "business", now....Not a "game".
Go get em Dawg Pound....Bid'ness is still Good!! Lmao…ESPN is predicting a down market for UGA. Maybe, they work for The Fed. Lol...cause, they couldn't be more clueless.
28 playoff format is perfect! You have over 100 teams. Conference championships are important and you should get a bye for winning if you are ranked. If not ranked high, automatic qualifier. Then use BCS ranking system to work out the rest. Home games in first 1or 2 rounds. Then bowl games. Everyone is still going to watch their team play every single game no matter the format, so all games will always be important. This will eliminate what ifs…
I agree. With 24 to 28 of the 130-plus DIV1 CFB teams,, qualifying for a spot.…you might as well, go back to the old BCS Formula.
Best of my recollection....The CFB Ranking Systems that existed prior to the CFP, only had a problem with analyzing the top 5 teams.
With 24 to 28 Qualifiers....It doesn't matter, how you rank em. There's only about 5 or 6 teams, that are Championship-Worthy, every year. They're bound to include all 5 or 6, in a 28 team field.
The rest of the teams are just garnish and appe'teasers, of no consequence....Imo.
Go Dawgs!!!
