Where Georgia, Tennessee fit in early Colllege Football Playoff picture entering Saturday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. â Georgia might still be viewed as the âbiggest mysteryâ in college football entering the weekend, but the computers and pollsters believe in them.

"Red hot"? Based on what, exactly?
@E_Roc Tennessee scored a school-record 72 points in its most recent game and made the biggest jump in the AP Top 25 poll, moving up 7 spots.
Red hot? I too beg to differ. Yes TN ran up the score on a bad, overmatched ETSU team. The new TN QB only hit 58% of his passes vs Syracuse. In addition, UGA is a more difficult defensive match up for TN. UGA D may not be overpowering but it is extremely athletic. Athleticism and depth on all 3 levels of the D. Swarming athletes should have a higher probability of success vs TN spread O.
TN's defense gave up 26 pts to Syr. Syr QB threw for 274 yds and Syr RB rushed for 91 yards.
Looks like TN will be missing David Sanders at OT. TN will also be missing both starting CB's and 2 or 3 rotational players on the DL (likely 2 DT's).
Also, special teams could play a big role saturday. UGA ST's looking elite in all phases. Thorson seems a little rusty and seems to be taking a little extra time getting his punts off. Be aware of the rush with a little more urgency.
Thanks for the response, Mike. But I would expect a higher bar for that kind of characterization considering the context - i.e., the opponent in that game and the fact that Georgia has owned Tennessee for nearly a decade now. Plus the points that UGADad has conveniently provided and prevented me from having to go and look up myself.
”72 points” …..Dang - that is scary, how many you think the are gonna put on the Dawgs??
a Heupel TN team has never put more than 20 on a Kirby defense so I’m gonna guess a little less than 72.
How many other wannabes scored in the neighborhood of 70 points last weekend? Lol....dang near everybody that played an FCS team....except Florida. Lmao.
If Kirby could get an extra WIN or gain anything....by beating em 70-80 to Zero....he'd do it.
Imo....Tennessee should've done what UGA did....work on the basics and prepare for this Saturday. They squandered a golden opportunity to "get better" and prepare for the Dawgs.
And they did it, in favor of a feel good moment that cost em 2 starting Cornerbacks. That's the kind of stuff Ray Goff used to do. Lol
Oh yeah....one more thing....
Tennessee had to run 99 plays, plus Spe ial Teams, to rack up all those "points and stats".
I would submit, that UGA could score those "points & stats"....in 60 plays or less. And, the defense would account for some of those points.
That is...IF...Kirby took off the ball and chain and said, "sic em"!. . Lol....which I hear he may do this Saturday....just because.
Time for Kirby to put the Heupel's, Deboer's & Sarkisian's in their place. I started to add Napier...but, nah...he's already there.
Go Dawgs....Run the Gunner!
Dawgs Defense get at least two turn overs that result in points for our Dawgs !! Go Dawgs !!
Running up the score—that's what Josh Heupel does.
“You have to be smart when you game plan, you can’t do quite as much as you do at home.”
How scary is that statement? Especially when one considers what we’ve done “at home” so far this season.
Hoping for a good game with our Dawgs prevailing. We need to be putting pressure on the QB today and NEVER let him get settled back there. He needs to be hearing the loud footsteps coming for him all day. Go Dawgs!!
about 30 points less than 72
