Georgia freshman Elyiss Williams brings tight end production back into play against Kentucky

ATHENS â The tight end position made a welcome return to the Georgia passing game on Saturday, reminding fans just how much talent the Bulldogs have stacked at the position.

Delp showed some real wheels on his longest catch, plays like that get you into the League, 3rd-4th rounder IMO.
“Smart has been wanting to see the tight ends break tackles and make yards after the catch”
You have to actually throw to them for this to happen. After Bowers left, the TE has become, basically, an extension of the offensive line. Surely he saw what happens when you throw to them. If nothing else, he sees what happens when his opponent throws to them.
Well I'll be doggone, who knew
I've been watching Elyiss Williams whenever I noticed him on the field throughout the season. He's a presence!
In my opinion, he should be playing more, and utilized more. Perhaps a lot more. As most of us know, much is about blocking. If you think of the offense as primarily a blocking machine - which it is - the more it's clicking on all cylinders, the more opportunities there are for guys like Elyiss Williams to have the ball. Our receivers as a group can continue to improve as blockers which opens up more opportunities for them as ball carriers.
Go, Dawgs!
Delp showed some surprising, at least to me, speed after his reception. The man can move.
Elyiss and Ryan are going to be an important part of UGAs future. Accolades to Kirby for playing everybody (almost), helping to nurture individual and team ability.
I watched Elyiss play at Camden…he looked like a man among boys, both in stature and competence. He's been compared to Washington...no, he's got wide receiver speed along with that size. Go Dawgs!!!
Its a product of several things and none of them have anything to do with coaching or play calling.
1. This is the biggest one. Gunner is not throwing to open TE/wr against zone coverage. They are there, the olays are called, he looks at them, he just has not been confident.
2. Even though the TE are running routes they are not the best option on this team. They were always going to have a slight dip in production bc we have much better options at wr this year. With that said they have been called on and open far more than the numbers suggest.
3. We are a better running team. We run more as we should which means we have less overall pass attempts a game. This causes everyone's catch numbers to go down. If anything by the way gunner has struggled with his confidence and execution against zone we may need to increase running the ball against better teams.
These are the primary reasons. NOT coaching or play calling. I know many people just follow the camera or the results, but the box score does not tell the story. I like gunner. He is good against man. He is showing improvement against zone, but we will need him to really start showing better success moving forward. Im not saying coaches are perfect. None are, but when players execute it makes things look completely different. Im hoping this past game can give gunner the confidence to jump start the rest of the year. His running has been a weapon. If he does not show more willingness to throw and complete throws against zone to all the open weapons we always have, then the best thing moving forward may be to stay stubborn with the run and ask gunner to keep the ball more on runs because he does leave some on the table each game by not pulling it on the read. Its a young and inexperienced team and we can only hope they continue to improve as the season goes on. The season the experience just is not on the team as a whole and people need to accept that and temper their expectstions. Especially with all the injuries on ol and previous years injuries that stunted players development that im positive most casual fans are not aware of.
Elyiss Williams reminds me of Darnell Washington. Same size, etc. He's going to be a force moving forward.
