Smart and Kiffin clearly have a good relationship and their back and forth is quite entertaining.
Crowd noise is great for the home team, kinda like that 12th man. Probably why the home team usually get -3 points credit to overall point spread. When it's loud, the offense has a tough time hearing the adjustments called & mistakes happen. As far as the D' goes, they do adjust verbally to the O' set/alignment - but when they can't hear, they use hand signals. It's worked that way since before time.
When the dust settles, it's usually the best team that wins… but the home crowd does matter.
Gonna be a good one this Sattiday!
"Kiffin remarked this week that his team had to replace 20 of 22 starters from last year’s team." That's what happens when a significant portion of your roster is put together from the TP…
and the reason I hate the NIL…
Biggest difference in coaching philosophy, one coach builds via recruiting and developing 17 year old kids and the other builds by buying more seasoned 20and 21 year olds. And I must confess, every time we lose a highly coveted 17 year old to a last minute flip or lose 20 of your 18 and 19 year olds each year after you spend a few years developing them to the transfer portal and watch them star somewhere else, I wonder if Kiff has embraced the value of the TP Nil process more so than Kirby.
Another thought on this difference in philosophies is that Coach Kirby has won two national titles and been in four playoffs doing it his way!
Don’t believe Kiffin has done that yet……
Go Dawgs!
No way we lose to Ole MIss on Saturday. We have the better players(per recruiting stats the past several years) and if we were to lose or rather just get outplayed, then recruiting isn't all it's cracked up to be anymore with the TP. Losing IMHO would be a strong signal to(or should be) that Kirby's way is a dinosaur destined for extinction or that he has the better team, just not the better coaches, or some combo of both.
Losing in back to back years to Ole Miss when you ran them out of town 2 years ago the year before the TP opened up big would be to put it mildly, unacceptable. Either your coaches aren't as good or your players. Hopefully, that doesn't happen, but if it does, Kirby's sytem or "way" will be suspect, in much the same way as Dabo's "way" has become
THose 2 NC's will be 4 years in the rearview mirror after the completion of this season.
Fair point @Bdw3184 but here are some key changes to the TP process:
2021 - no sitting out a year for D1 athletes
2024 - unlimited transfers (worst decision ever, completely destroying the student-athlete process - buy your best team every year!)
Add in tweaks to the grad transfer and jr college rules and clearly the importance of utilizing the TP process has become more important than trying to court, coddle and collect 17 year old kid commitments, imho.
the unlimited transfer rule wasn’t the NCAA’s fault. It was challenged in court and ruled to be illegal. Again it’s something that they should’ve done the one free transfer 20 years ago and/or stipulated some sort of class credit component but they didn’t and now here we are.
