”We introduced the new metric, which is record strength, which measures how well a team performs against its schedule,” Rhoads said last week, “and that’s a cumulative sum of scores as we progress through the year.”

So you play a weak schedule but score a lot of points—that trumps SOS? SEC has better defenses so we may not score as many points as teams in weaker conferences. Their metric is flawed.

As suspected, the committee still doesn’t value SOS enough for it to matter. That explains a lot about the CFP rankings.

What a joke this remains. Strength of schedule has been watered down so gibberish like he spoke can be rolled out there. Winning at Iowa - bwahahahahahaha. Who doesn’t win at Iowa except the Lower half of the lil’10 who couldn’t win at the coast guard academy for crying out loud. Also, why are teams that were once ranked but have completely fallen out still counted as a ranked win?! Makes no sense. So using their logic, if Jawga beats Texas university, then we have beaten the #1 ranked team.

Ridiculous. Like I’ve said, bring back the computers instead of these old hacks that were bad coaches.

A dumb writer from espn thinks Texas tech should have jumped Georgia, too. He obviously forgot that Georgia destroyed Miss St who beat Arizona St who beat Texas tech.

Yeah it’s the same ole circus. They’ve been plugging Notre Dame in just about every year a long long time before the playoffs were created. And they’ll do it again next year.

And I like the wording ( sarcasm) GIVE Indiana the better defense GIVE Indiana the slightly better Offense. Allot of nice Giving there !! Yall Know I’m sure not an Ole Miss fan but they got stung badly on this deal !!

I Never pull for other teams Over our beloved Dawgs. But other than our Dawgs right at this moment in time TAMU looks like number one. Which only means I wish our Dawgs could play them ( and it might end up they do) and take it away from them !! Not a TAMU fan but they seem to be firing on all cylinders for now. Go Dawgs !!

I looked up Mr.Rhoades bio. He attended University of Arizona where it appears he got his bachelor’s degree then guess where he continued his education at ? Allow me to help none other than the University Of Indiana. How nice. 🙄 EVEN if it was UGA the ADs, Current and Former Coaches should NOT be on the Play Off Committee less alone be the Chairman !!

It just gives a Very bad impression. There’s got to be some knowledgeable folks out there that would at least Look less biased !!

And some people will say it ain’t so but ESPN holds far too much sway in CFB to my notion. And I hate to beat this horse to death but it just chokes me that Nick Saban gets $500K per year to be an “Advisor” to Bama And be part of the ESPN crew. Just doesn’t look right.

I almost want to upchuck every time that advertisement about the family on vacation that he’s renting out his house to and he’s laying out all the rules. OK Nick OK we know you’re extremely wealthy !! 🤮

As I stated before I’m sure not a Kiffin and Ole Miss fan but they got the shaft !! So if our Dawgs slip any at all they’ll thump us down into the abyss !! My wife said the other day “ I used to think you were exaggerating about ESPN not liking the Dawgs but now I clearly see it especially the last few years”. You’d have to know my wife but if She sees it, it’s there !! Bias I’m talking about as she trusts Everybody !!

“Texas A&M has the No. 15-ranked schedule strength”

Talk about an idiotic double standard…play 6 of the bottom 8 teams with a combined conf record of 8-27 with a 1-6 opponent this weekend, and people want to cry about SOS…that 15th ranked SOS is a total farce. This year reminds me of a day gone by…another highly ranked overrated team from Texas, hello TCU…looking at you. The more things change, the more they stay the same…

Like I've said before, there is too much eye test and bias in these rankings. But, if you're going to leave it up to a group of humans to come together and agree on a weekly ranking, then it will be purely subjective and most likely flawed to some extent. Rhoads already stated their SOS metric is weighted no more heavily than any of there other criteria, so SOS does not get any special treatment as it relates to all their metrics.

The counter argument for teams like Indiana and Ohio State is they only can play and win the games on their schedule. No more, no less. As long as they keep winning, they will be rewarded. Texas A&M just needs to close out strong and not lose any games. If they do that with their overall resume, then I bet they will move up no matter what the other two B1G teams do.

Texas Tech is another story. They have a great team, but the overall caliber of the Big 12 is simply not the same as the SEC. Their offense cannot score TDs consistently against better defenses, but their defense is excellent. Sure, they will probably make the playoffs, but I'd be shocked if they make it very deep into the contest.

The gramster SOS Pick em’…who has played the most difficult conference schedule? Food for thought…

Indy 16-26 remaining schedule 1-12 key win Oregon

OhSt 11-26 remaining schedule 10-9 key win Texas

aTm 8-27 remaining schedule 5-7 key win ND

Bama 18-19 remaining schedule 4-8 key win UGa

UGa 20-24 remaining schedule 4-1 key win Ole Miss

The problem with Mack Rhodes is he is not a good liar. He can't sell the committees decisions with any conviction. He speaks and it sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher.

Supposedly the SEC is the Big Dog in College football, except when it comes playoff time. Where is Sankey in all of this?

  • GramsterGramster Posts: 446 ✭✭✭✭ Senior

If the SEC is the BIG DAWG why are the last two Natty winners B1G?

  • reddawg1reddawg1 Posts: 4,315 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

My point was we're the biggest baddest conference, except when playoff time rolls a round and they pick the teams. THe SEC doesn't get credit for how tough a schedule everyone has to play. But to your point we could go back the past 13 years and see which conference has won the most Natties.

Strength of schedule is meaningful to the committee only when it can be used to punish a team the committee wants to punish. That will never be a Big 10 team. A&M should clearly be ranked #1. They’re undefeated with the strongest strength of schedule among the undefeated teams. It’s not that complicated.
