Even though his name says sportsfan his logical comments dove in more below the surface of what an average sports fan typically looks at. Those are the things that the committee will be discussing when they make their final rankings.
The point is it doesn't matter what team he roots for if what he says is true. It is turning out that that great UGA schedule might not be all that. TX, TN, GT all look to be overrated considering that they will all miss the 12 team playoff. 5 of UGA's 11 wins were a struggle. By 3, 10, 8, 4 and 7 pts. Only 1 playoff team in the bunch.
Unless UGA gets blown out by AL (unlikely), in a loss in the SECCG, it will host a playoff game. The flip side of that is unless UGA wins the SECCG it will not be a top 4 seed.
"We shoulda won". The committee has way too many data points to consider shoulda's. I don't think AL gets a mulligan if they lose again. They could sneak in at #12 but I think the committee doesn't want the criticism of letting a 3 loss AL in over another team. That's why I think a very talented AL team will come into this game w/confidence against UGA and breathing fire.
We have all learned that what the committee says and what they do aren't always aligned.
AL is a bad matchup for UGA. Good passing teams (see AL's 1st half vs UGA and MS scoring 5 straight TD's) give UGA trouble. It will be interesting to see what AL OC dials up for UGA and what Smart and Schumann dial up for AL.
The icing on this cake is that, it would seem, the SEC benefits more from an AL win. AL win probably puts 5 SEC teams in the playoffs. An AL loss probably puts 4 SEC teams in the playoff.
@MACDAWG @randomsportsfan MACDAWG As random wouldn’t answer you I’ll go fishing and see if he’ll answer me. So random what team do You feel is Better than the Dawgs and Why ? That includes the NO Loss teams. I read your take on why the teams the Dawgs faced and beat aren’t that great in your opinion. Not sure if I buy it in its entirety. One thing jumps out right away you make no mention of injuries to Key players for those teams.
Take for example our Dawgs we just lost Drew Bobo our starting Center which was Huge and not just in his size. When we played those teams they were ranked.
Another thing is the more teams play as the season rolls on the more film opponents have to devise ways of defeating them whether Offensively or Defensively or Both There are other factors. But if I’m reading you right if I’m reading you wrong I apologize Right Now but your take seems to me to be saying that because a given team that the Dawgs played are Not all that good Now, they were Not all that good when the Dawgs played them. I don’t particularly agree with that. But my main question is What team is better than the Dawgs right now and Why ? If you want you can add in If your team (the team you designate as better) played the Dawgs this Saturday they’d beat the Dawgs and Why. You’re Not restricted to one team.
Now my next question is the Biggest question are you Truly “ just” a random sports fan or are you in reality a very eloquent troll here to stir up discontent, anger, bitterness, arguing etc. then go back to the fanbase that you Really Are a fan of, share with them the chaos you managed to stir up and get a good laugh at our expense ? If your Not that then I apologize Right Now with no reservations.
A True Fan Loves their team Win or Lose. A True Fan might be tremendously disappointed when their team loses, Especially a game they thought their team should have won but a True Fan will not discard their team even after a series of losses. As long as players are giving their all Even if they make mistakes a True Fan will be proud of that player and the team if for nothing But that effort. Gunner had a bad day vs GT there’s no denying that. But he also was slammed to the ground like a rag doll at least twice I think really three times and Hard tackled several other times. There’s No Way I’m gonna come on here and trash that young man Even though Yes he made some bad mistakes. But having watched him this year that has little to no bearing on how he will perform vs Bama.
Finally Refs Can and Do influence games in a strong way. They Can and Have influenced the out come of the game. This particular year has been one of the most controversial years of all. When something happens once or twice heck even three times you can say Oh that’s just coincidence. But when it happens frequently No that’s beyond coincidence. Any team that plays Bama has to account for the Refs because Any and All 50-50 calls are gonna go to Bama. Someone will quickly say Oh your just saying that cause your a Dawgs fan. Nope. I’m Sure not an Auburn fan you can be Very assured of that but I watched that game start to finish and very intently as the result Would affect our Dawgs and there it came several, several calls that went Bama’s way.
DeBoer is skilled in how to work the Refs Ill give him that. And I figured out How he does it last night !! He belly aches and whines and pitches a hissy fit on ANY and ALL calls that go against Bama !! That’s pure Saban in action there. He Conditions the Refs thinking so that they Give him a few calls as the game goes on !! There was an Entire Ref Crew fired this year !! They can also be temporarily suspended and in some cases get pay deductions based on HC calling and complaining !! Spurrier would either Call or Write the SEC Commish at the drop of a cap. After a while it became a butt end joke !! But he did it To Much and lost his credibility like the little boy crying wolf. Kirby complains to and some times Very Heatedly but if you watch him he usually only contests the Iffy type calls the 50-50 calls. If it’s legit he just moves on.
Any who sorry for the novel here. But I only noticed you come on board here about roughly mid season. I must say you are very eloquent and articulate and give a veneer of neutral. But it’s a thin veneer it seems that your taking shots at the Dawgs though very carefully crafted and nuanced. MACDAWG I’m not a Coach or an Expert and don’t try to portray myself as those as I know there’s plenty of things I Don’t know. But I see plenty of logic in your comments !!
One thing I Do Know we fans can speculate, offer opinions, discuss, etc. But in the end that’s not gonna change the Coach’s game plan and it’s not gonna elevate or diminish the player’s level of play. If we as fans are loud enough At the game we might affect the opposing QB a bit.
What I’m trying to say is your opinion and what You believe is logical is every bit as valuable as anyone else here. We do support the team by our $$ we sink into the program in various ways. Mine and my wife’s is purchasing their merchandise for ourselves and as gifts to family and friends. I doubt pretty seriously there are many if any Real experts here unless maybe they are either retired or actively In the football coaching profession.
Even then the level of their expertise would have to be considered as theirs a Vast leap from coaching a local recreational department football team than coaching a high profile team in the SEC. I would think that most people would concede that point. So again Your opinions and what You hold to be logical is just as valuable and prestigious as Anyone here. Because the Truth is unless a person here Is retired from or actively coaching a high profile CFB team then they are just fans like me and you !! I believe personally that our Dawgs Can and Will beat Bama this go around as I believe Kirby now has a better feel for DeBoer and our Dawgs want it more. We’ll see but Win or Lose I’m gonna Love Them Dawgs !!
