Gabe Harris presence was missed, for sure, but seeing as how we haven’t had a pass rush all season, I don’t believe it was that much of a factor in the game. We have to get better in that phase of the game next season! Go Dawgs!
Loser - UGA fixing problems. No more excuses. Bobo isn't the guy, time for something better, time to try. Glenn Schuman needs help, time to fix that. Pass Rush, go get some folks. QB, bring in some talent. Sorry, love Gunner, but he isn't going to make the reads when he needs to, and his arm talent is average. Competition is a good thing. Time to find the next young coaching talent and bring them in.
We tried tweaking the system, but we arrived at the same location. One and done in the playoffs.
I don’t know that I’d say the pass rush was a loser. There were the two amazing scramble plays by chambliss late in the game, but the vast majority of his throws were out of his hands very quickly and were almost always accurate. We didn’t have time to get pressure. I don’t think I heard zaydon walker’s name once; he’s the edge rusher of the future. On the other hand I think the biggest loser was the offensive game plan. Bobo had some incredible games through the season, as I think back to tenn, bama both games, ole miss #1, Texas. But this game he just seemed backwards as he schemed to pass when he should run and run when ole miss played the run. Finally, in keeping with offensive mentality, if it’s true that gunner doesn’t have the freedom to alter/change plays at the LOS, that is a major foul. I remember a particular play in the rose bowl, where Fromm, a freshman, seeing the defensive setup, made a change at the line and Chubb took a long run to the house.
“They played to win the game, and we played to win the game,” Smart said. “We didn’t play to go to overtime, because a lot of people would have said, Oh, third and 5, let’s just run it and milk the clock out or they’ll call timeout. They went for it, and they made a good play.”……BS…..given our success running the ball, I'll always believe we would have had a better chance scoring with a north/south run plus eating the clock.
On the final series with 3rd and goal, Gunner's throw to Delp was late and really had little chance as the TE was heading out of the endzone. If he had waited a second or two he had Branch coming back underneath with an easier throw. Colbie was open as well.
Loser - the English language in the hands of Riley and Griffith.
I loved this team from start to finish. Young guys playing with passion and energy. No heroes just a group of young men all pulling in same direction. I think Coach Smart, Coach Bobo and and Coach Schuman did their best coaching job this year with this young group that was pretty beat up most of the year. So looking forward to our Spring game and preparation for 2026. Go Dawgs!
I don't see this team as very different from last year's team. We won one more game this season against an easier regular season schedule, and a weaker SEC conference overall. Both teams had their share of key injuries, ups and downs, inconsistent play, lack of domination, grit and toughness, periods of brilliance, questionable play calling, and a heartbreaking loss in the first game of the playoffs.
Honestly, I'm ready to get off this merry-go-round and try something different so we can move forward instead of running in place. I'm proud of the players and their never-give-up attitude. But, I see that same attitude and determination in many other teams out there. I don't think that's anything unusual in a well coached, tight football team. What truly makes a Dawg's team special, different?
I do think every team out there is going to have to get used to playing younger starters and having less talented depth in your backups. The portal has become the life blood of a team filling key gaps in their lineup. Just look at how important Branch was to the Dawgs this season. And Young, despite his injury. What if we hadn't gotten them?
On to 2026 and better results...GO DAWGS!
THe back to back Natties taught me that so much has to go right or in your favor in order to win them. A missed field goal to win the game from a usually very precise kicker, or an ill advised panicked throw for an INT instead of taking off and running for 20 yards and a first down by the eventual #1 draft pick in the NFL.
I think Montana Dawg is right that in the end this years team wasn't all that different from last season's team. We could of easily lost 2-3 more games this season, but we found a way to win. We could of easily said the same thing after Thusday's game if we had score the TD at the end, but this time we found a way to lose. Who in their right mind didn't think Chambliss wouldn't find a way to get his team into FG position? Not me.
THe photograph of the 3rd down play above showed Gunner chose the wrong receiver to throw to. I remember the look from behind Gunner showed 16(I think) beating his man in the back of the endzone from the left side but the ball had to be thrown on time and there was a LB standing halfway in between. Either a taller QB makes that throw or one that could put touch on it and float it over the linebackers reach.
In the end in both the Notre Dame game and this years game the coaches and players both made either a couple of wrong calls or players just didn't execute and it was the ballgame.
At the end of the first half with 3 timeouts and the ball at the 15 CKS played scared. We ran Gunner on keepers 2-3 times? I believe that decision was made because of what happened last year right before the half with Notre Dame. I know he was making sure that UGA went into the locker room with a lead and supposedly the momentum, but it really showed you didn't trust your offense and your field general. Do you think the other team would have shut down their QB with 3 timeouts, if the situation was reversed? I don't think so.
I think that Ole Miss went into their locker room and their coach told his team, they're scared of us! THey blinked! We can beat them just rushing 3! Just my opinion.
@reddawg1...Amen. That last Dawg's offensive series of the first half was a complete waste. That convinced me that we didn't trust our QB or offense enough to drive the field and score points before half. I was throwing things at my TV!!
A National Championship team would have the confidence, coaches, game plan, and players to finish the drill.
We don't and didn't.
Regardless of the outcome, I'm very proud of how this team full of "no names" played this season..GoDAWGS!
Brandon Adams is having his show right now discussing what Kirby said at the press conference before the Sugar Bowl when asked about criticism of CMB he told the reporter he believed Bobo has done the best job in the country as an OC! He could care less what fans think!
Sadly, somewhere there is a disconnect. UGA has averaged 32 points per game the past 2 years, we didn't get better with supposedly a better QB. We were the same with Gunner as with CB. Most fans thought with Gunner being "Bobo's guy" the offense would ascend to new heights. It didn't. Now were we as Doctor Jekyl and Mr. Hide as last year? No! THe scoring was more balanced out per quarters. We even ran the ball much better this season compared to last year which many thought would be the answer to improved scoring, but it wasn't.
Again there is a disconnect between what Kirbys declares about Bobo and what is reality. We were 28th nationally in scoring and only 6th in the SEC in scoring offense! How do the stats lineup with having the best OC in the nation? With a roster made up of 4 stars ranked higher than at least 4 of the other SEC teams that outscored us?
This isn't Bobo bashing( I actually believe he's a pretty descent coach) but according to Kirby, he's the best out there, wouldn't trade him for the world! IMHO either our offense is made up of duds or CMB is good but not an elite coach. I don't know how you have a really good to great roster of kids and the best OC in college football (Kirby's evaluation)and wind up 6th in your conference in scoring and 28th nationally.
@reddawg1…
Indiana #3 in Scoring Offense at more than 10 points higher than the Dawgs. Georgia #28.
Indiana #11 in Rushing Offense…Dawgs #35.
Indiana #46 in Passing Offense….Dawgs #76.
Indiana's offense is almost evenly split 50-50 Run & Pass and better in every offensive category.
As much as we improved running the ball and stopping the run this season, we still aren't where we need to be in overall offensive production.
Indiana #2 in Scoring Defense….Dawgs # 11.
Indiana #29 in Red Zone Defense. Dawgs # 14.
We all know our defense improved during the year. A definite positive.
I don't know about CMB. Sometimes he looks brilliant and other times I shake my head at the play calls. I couldn't tell you if there are better fish in the offensive sea than Bobo, but my guess is there are….just not sure we'll see any new blood in that position soon.
Indiana also had one of the top 5 easiest schedules in the country to help pad those team stats..
And you just knew that awfully called & executed last series would end up costing us the game. At the time said to wife, "Bobo just cost us the game", he's managed to keep Ole Miss in it.
