This is why Saban got out.

Kids won't like the end result, because sooner or later, these colleges will start cutting under performers to make room for portal additions. Then it will get ****. Colorado ****

Does anyone think these players and agents care about the $20M salary cap? Not a one.

"Saban, a seven-time championship coach at Alabama and LSU, suggests the transfer portal date be moved back to May, in line with the academic calendar, and that offseason football training be moved from the spring semester to the summer semester."

I don't understand why this proposal would even be controversial in any way. This is the ONLY solution to the chaos outside of a collective bargaining agreement. If you sign up for a scholarship/NIL deal/etc., you shouldn't be allowed to leave till the academic year is over in May. And coaches shouldn't be allowed to leave or start negotiations with another school until bowl season is completely over.

“We created a system that only allows you to gain advantage if you want to leave,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said during the lead up to the Bulldogs’ CFP quarterfinal in the Sugar Bowl last week in New Orleans.

“You’ve created a system that inherently rewards what defies a team concept, and in a team sport, it just makes no sense.”

Yes and No. For the guys who aren't starters then it does give new opportunities to play immediately elsewhere. So that's a positive. But, yes, it defies the team concept and seems a bit crazy, but if you are already starting at a very good or elite team then why would you leave?? Most guys won't transfer unless there is internal team or coaching conflict or something else no one outside the team truly understands (see Carson Beck).

Yes, the timing of the transfer portal is just insane. The roster management required by the coaching staff is a major issue. But, what Lane Kiffin has done to his former team, players, and coaching staff is just the worst. The guy is a snake and a narcissist.

the pros have to love all of this.I wouldn’t complain at all if the colleges stopped all of this nonsense and put the onus on the pros - make them come under with their own venue, develop & pay them, the venue, as well as all the other overhead.

Guessing there is a reason why they had to be 3 years removed from their HS graduating class before being drafted in the first place..money is probably one, maturity is probably another.

Rather see someone play for the love of their school…offer scholarships again and bring in walk ons if you had to. Rebuild it all, I certainly wouldn’t complain.

Unfortunately - don’t believe any this would happen. The cat is already out of the bag.

Those seeking depth and talent from the portal love it. Just ask LK or the new coach at Ole Miss. a team that returned 2 starters from the 2024 season, just knocked UGA out of the playoffs. Some say we have better players as back ups than what can be aquired from the transfer portal. How'd that go against Ole Miss? The good old days of just receruiting better seem to be over. Time to stop resisting change and complaining about it.

the problem is that you can’t have a “salary cap” on NIL because it’s not a salary. No league, no sport, indeed, no profession has a salary cap on NIL earnings.

The advent of NIL that the NCAA set back and allowed to happen. Along with the TP was pretty much the death of True CFB.

NIL would have probably come along eventually anyhow But had the NCAA came up with a reasonable but generous stipend for players across All CFB the dooms day could’ve been put off quite a few years.

As best I can see the NCAA is just a bunch of lazy farts drawing a check. They don’t care. And because of that millions of fans who Love CFB suffer.

CFB now is merely semipro ball nothing more. But been a Dawgs fan for far too long to hang up my red & black gear. Loved Em before, Love Em now.

Watching college football today is like watching an old slow motion black & white film of a train wreck. One supposedly good decision is followed by two bad decisions…We’ll set a salary cap at $20.5 million, but allow players & their agents to develop their own NIL deals which will in no way involve the university which is trying to flip the player from their current school! (Wink, wink)!
However, to really fix it all, lets get a US Congress involved that can’t even get together on a simple budget resolution.

This train wreck has just begun to leave the rails. With each day, we seem to be headed toward a minor league NFL that is a combination of the USFL, Canadian, arena, & local semi-pro football that’s impossible to watch.

People need to understand this: You can't "salary cap" NIL earnings. Any attempt to salary cap NIL earnings will be kicked to the curb by the courts in a New York minute. NIL earnings are always outside of any salary cap or collective bargaining agreement in any league, sport, or profession. Michael Jordan earned millions in NIL $$$ beyond any NBA salary cap while he was still playing, and indeed, continues to earn millions (billions?) even though he hasn't played in decades. Whether you are a movie star, musician or engineer, a stay-at-home Mom or plumber, no one can cap your NIL earnings. NIL earnings can be taxed, but they can't be capped.

    Think about it.
