Absolutely agree there is no comparison between Kirby & Richt. Kirby's record speaks for itself, it's been a great ride so far, and will continue. Go Dawgs!

TyQuez is coming as a walk-on. He didn’t make all conference in a very weak conference. At least we haven’t wasted a scholarship or NIL money. However, we haven’t strengthened our OL with this addition either.

It seems rather clear to me that in the current basically unregulated college football world that relying on high school recruits and developing them over 2-4 years is now outdated. Like it or not, the new world requires serious transfers into a program. Refusing to participate in this new world is why Clemson has fallen so far. Kirby has used the portal fairly well at times, so he’s not “Daboing” it up. But, we must get better at playing how things are now being done or else.

Good posts. It's weird to see so many people convince themselves that the portal is the only way a team can improve from one year to the next. Georgia had a lot of young talent on last year's team who came in as highly rated recruits, and who will be back next season with another year of experience and development under their belts.

Look at the bright side, if we have 3 seconds left on the clock on our own 25 yard line down by a score, Bobo can call a 6 QB set and we can have them throw the ball back and forth all the way up the field to the winning score instead of trying a screen play…nice to have options. (-:

Fellow Dawgs fans and I look at the highs and lows of the recent football season in my latest Junkyard Blawg. Click below to read it. https://billkingjunkyardblawg.wordpress.com/2026/01/17/surprise-sec-champ-uga-exceeded-expectations-despite-playoff-flameout/

I liked his highlight reel. Hopefully he can grasp the complexities of the Mike Bobo screen game, and QB run calls on 3rd and 8 while following a leaky OL. I wish we consistently recruited the Offensive side of the ball as well as we do the defensive side of the ball.

IMO, Kirby seems to justify a super conservative offense in part based on the recent first starting status of each QB. The inexperience and mistake avoidance thing. Problem is he stays with that plan every year right up until the QB graduates, leaves for the NFL or transfers. Then we just serially continue this with the next man up.

While this new 4* should offer some insurance, how many believe he (or the others already on the team) will be used for true downfield attack? Basically a 2* can run this style offense. While there could be multiple contributors, could this be a key factor in the Beck transfer? He had sketchy O line protection, and short or backfield passes were the norm. Whether you like Beck there does seem an obvious improvement this year after arriving at Miami as the coach prioritized the explosive plays and offensive line and he was able to utilize his passing skills.

I don’t see Kirby changing the style after 10 years. He can sit tight on a $13 million salary, do as he pleases, and retain the same staff until he’s ready to hang it up. He knows he has job security indefinitely so where is the pressure to change? Ironically he’s famous for telling his players that none have a secure position at ANY time. The have to keep improving and changing to maintain. Double standard?

The best offensive years of the Kirby Smart era was 2022 followed by 2017, 2021 and probably 2023. The rest was clunky, conservative, unimaginative and simple. For next year, who’s going to catch the ball, who will be the dominant force on the o-line?

  • Dogbone1Dogbone1 Posts: 34 ✭✭✭ Junior

Agree. Offense has been in progressive decline in many areas. I see regression for next years line and receivers. Stockton stable to improved but he won’t have time and Bobo won’t be taking many shots. Who can replace Young and Branch that’s on the team irrespective of who the QB is? All the screens do is ensure quick release but the D knows it’s coming and have 2-3 defenders in the backfield when the catch is made.

  • Dogbone1Dogbone1 Posts: 34 ✭✭✭ Junior

And we clearly do not recruit the offensive side of the ball with nearly the emphasis of the defense. Been that way for a while. That’s because the concept is that we plan to be run heavy, with an attempt to eat clock and keep the opposing offenses off the field. That once was more effective when we had 2 to 3 deep dominant linemen, a great O line coach, and game changer offensive players. And when we could develop these players for 3 to 4 years. All of those now seem a thing of the past, so as others have said if we don’t strengthen the offense with the portal plus recruiting, we are going to be middle of SEC. We should not forget that LSU, Florida, and Texas Are very likely to be much better within a year with new coaches and NIL. It could prove very difficult to lose less than two or three games every year regular season without some changes.

NO SARCASM From Me At Anyone !! Just some questions and points to ponder. After the B2B Nattys what UGA Team has done any Better than this 2025 Team ? I mean 12-0, Won the SEC Crown, at least made it to the playoffs. In my humble view no other Dawgs team has done Any Better, As Good Yes, but no better.

Whether negative, positive or in between much of our conversation centers on it being Gunner’s first year as starter. Which as his position is critical that’s understandable. But he was Far from being the only first year starter. We had guys on Both sides of the ball that played out of Necessity. That’s gonna yield benefits going into this new season I believe.

We’ve got some Very interesting and exciting prospects out of HS. Who’s to know there may be two, three maybe even four guys that can be Very Good from the start.

NO I wasn’t as happy about the TP either. But there might be some decent help in there to fill the gaps.

Both Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens coming back was Huge !!

I could go on and on Yall already know this stuff. But one thing Yall also know Really well. Kirby is a Very proud man. You can be extremely assured he’s not satisfied !! And I don’t like bringing this up again but he will have had more time to heal from losing his Dad. Which I honestly think played much more of a factor in his whole life let alone coaching. It’s Not something you can just snap your fingers and get over. Especially in a very close relationship like he and his Dad had.

I can’t guarantee our Dawgs will do any better than 2025. They might do worse. But the reality is None of us know for sure what they will do.

Look this is an entirely new age of CFB with unprecedented things happening. I’m pretty confident we’ll never see any more Dynasties in CFB. And there are Numerous fan bases including the SEC that would’ve dearly Loved what our Dawgs did Since the B2B Nattys !!

So my advice is Hope for the best, savor the wins, and Try hard to put loses out of your mind as quickly as possible. Remember where these Dawgs came from Before Kirby Smart !! Like us he won’t settle, he’ll push the players hard !! Enjoy the Game !! Enjoy Life !! Go Dawgs !!

Dude, I'm with you. People don't want to hear it so we get a lot of down votes when we say this, but it's just the truth. You can't hoot and holler about how we have top-ranked recruiting classes every year, then get all defensive when those same "experts" say your portal class is lackluster. I hear people saying that Kirby's way is "sustainable" and Indiana's is not. Well, define "sustainable." If we mean, Kirby will be in the playoffs more often than not, then maybe it is sustainable. But if we're talking National Championships, I don't see it. People jumped on @randomsportsfan but he makes a good point that the declining strength of the SEC means that UGA will likely be around 10-2 or 11-1 every year, but will get caught in the playoffs. But eventually, if this trend continues, we won't even make the playoffs with regularity. To be clear, I'm not saying that we should sign EVERY top transfer kid, but I was surprised that Georgia wasn't even mentioned by the top candidates at our positions of need, like Cam Coleman at Wide Receiver, or that Seaton kid from Colorado as a tackle. We're in everybody's top 5 when they're coming out of high school. But when those same players, who might have signed elsewhere, decide to transfer 2 or 3 years later, we don't even get a look-see. I just think something is off with that picture. I think it's about money, but I also think it's about guys not seeing themselves getting ahead at UGA, especially at the offensive skill positions. And lately, our transfers on the defensive side of the ball have not performed well.

@DallasDawg No sarcasm at you but some questions and some statements for you.

So with the advent of NIL and the TP how often should UGA win National Titles in your view ?

If UGA continues over the next let’s say Three years and go 10-2 get the SEC Crown of those years go say 11-1. Make it to the playoffs but fail to advance. Then say 10-2 the next year NO SEC Crown and again make it to the playoffs but yet again fail to advance. In year three they win the SEC Crown and make it to the Semi Finals but lose. Keep Kirby or Fire him ?
Your an intelligent man, far better educated academically than I, your a mature man that’s had allot of life experiences. Surely you acknowledge with plenty of clarity the Coaching Carousel’s of UF, TN, LSU, etc. in the SEC.

Ohio St. won the Natty but they failed to make the Semi Finals.

Again No sarcasm at all. but exactly what are your expectations for UGA under Kirby ? Are you suggesting that if there’s not another Ntl. Title in the next say Three years he should be fired ?

In one thread which you never came back to you Specifically out of all the Dawgs fans that visit this site, cited Me stating “ that your not like navydawg seeing everything through rose colored glasses”. Which I took that just because I like and prefer to see things in a positive light, You feel I’m very naive.

I’ve stated on here Numerous times that I’m Not a Coach not and Expert. But becoming 69 in May I’ve listened to ( Larry Munson) and watched the Dawgs most all my life. I think I know a few things about the game. Always willing to learn more.

I have NOT down voted you. I Have many times Up Voted you. I don’t recall ever having called you out and insulted you. But if I have I apologized on that other thread and I apologize again now.

These are Very untested times for All HCs in CFB. They’re already talking about expanding the playoffs Even More !! So that’s gonna herald even more significant change.

I’m NOT making excuses for Kirby he can do that for himself as he’s the one making those huge $$. I’m just saying it’s No Longer about HC vs HC and Hasn’t been since NIL and the TP entered the picture. It’s about $$ verses $$ and Who’s willing to spend the most. Both on players AND Assistant Coaches. So if you think I’m “satisfied” with going Decades without another Ntl. Title you couldn’t be more wrong.

And if you don’t think I see some of the deficiencies at UGA, with due respect your wrong again. I just believe more Time might Help solve the problems. I’m NOT saying that more time is a cure all !!
The absolute Truth is You, Me, Other Dawgs fans, Even Kirby don’t Really know what this next Dawgs team will do, good, bad or in between !! We can certainly Speculate and offer our opinions. That’s the FUN of having this site !!

Prior to last season I saw for a fact ( You did to because you come here frequently) Numerous Dawgs fans saying best case scenario 9-3 !! AND that in some of those fans comments they’d be Happy with that. Some were even worse 8-4. Truthfully I didn’t see many of these last few 7-5 though there were some.

I Wanted ( I do Every year) to win out 12-0 go through the playoffs and win it All. But Honestly in my heart with So many and So Much New. I thought 11-1 with a Loss to either Bama or TX. I was leaning more toward it being TX. Well it turned out Bama.
Like All True Dawgs fans such as You. Yes I to was disappointed at losing game one of the playoffs. But for me there’s No Way I can even slightly refer to the 2025 campaign as a failure !! It was actually a Very Good year !!
To close Kirby Smart is a very proud man. We can be assured he’ll give his all for a Better year. Will it be enough ? I don’t know. But with respect neither do you. Gunner will bust his butt to pieces trying to get better. You can Surely count on that. Will it be enough ? I don’t know. Not referring to you but I’ve been told I take the Game way to serious. That’s accurate to a point. But NO it’s NOT War it’s a Game. If Bobo calls the wrong play it’s extremely doubtful someone will Die. Same if Gunner throws an INT.

Like I’ve stated before I don’t ask my fellow Dawgs fans to “ settle” for anything. But I Advise them to Enjoy the Wins, Try to shake off thx Losses as quickly as possible. Hope for the future. And Believe in the Team you Love.

Enjoy Life !! Unless your an Employee of Dawgs football Or bet on them with Vegas, or have Tons of $$ invested in their merchandise and gear, season tickets etc. It’s not gonna kill any of us unless we Let it !! I leave now considering you as not only a fellow Dawgs fan but a cyber friend !! Never count Kirby Smart out !! He’ll adapt to these CFB changes ( in time ) and come roaring back !! But there will be No More Dynasties in CFB. I think those are dead and buried with NIL and the TP. Saban saw it and hit the door !! Now I Hope I can practice what I preach !! 🤣 God Bless !!
