Awhile back, I predicted the Phillies were too good to keep losing like they had been. They dumped their manager and have gone 15-2. It's going to be a dawg fight in the NL East. We need to make as much hay as we can against sub-.500 teams, like the Fish..
Just read Drake Baldwin has been put on the IL. Not good. What is it with Braves' catchers and strained obliques? Do we need to fire the conditioning coach?
Man, the Marlins continue to struggle with attendance.
According to ESPN, Miami ranks 29th out of 30 teams averaging just over 12000 fans per game. I would guess today's contest has about 6,000 fans. That's pitiful.
Phillies are playing better. Let's see if they can keep it up.
They are a good team with some veteran players. They are also a bit on the old side. Most of their stars are getting 35+.
Dug a pretty deep hole to dig out of. Not saying they cant make the playoffs and then make some noise. But if they catch the Braves now it will be more about something going on with the Braves.
With a predominantly transplant fanbase and a stadium that's a pain to get to, I can see why that's the case. Been to one game at LoanDepot Park and it was way more work than it was worth. Little Havana's fine if you just want great food and you stick to Calle Ocho, otherwise forget about it
113 games left and the Braves are 33-16. If they go 57-56 over those 113 they get to 90 wins. 67-46 gets you to 100.
Phillies have 113 games left as well and are 25-24. To get to 90 they need to go 65-48. Which they could do but wouldn't be easy. To get to 100 they would need to go 75-38 which isnt happening.
So yeah it's all teed up for the Braves. If they play .500 ball from here then the Phillies have a chance. If they play even just a little better than that it's gonna be real tough for them to make up that ground.
Gonna lose a lot of production from the C with Baldwin out. That was a big advantage we had over lots of teams. Not overly concerned though this lineup is too deep.
Good time to get Acuna back. Like Baldwin he is capable of carrying the team. You saw some of that today on base 3 times scores 3 times.
Nice come from behind win today. This team has grit. The pen was great again and kudos to Martin Perez for keeping us in it after a rough 3-run first inning.
We need to continue to play well in division, especially head to head vs Phils. That would help a lot.
Agreed and so far so good as we are 5- 1 against them already this year….!
Wins don’t have to be given back! ( as I mentioned earlier on this thread)….once in the bank we are good!
Agree with @swilkerson7317 …… I had said earlier that basically going .500 the rest of the year would get us to 90 wins…. We were30-14 at the time….
100 wins would be so cool, though! And fie on the Phillies!
Riley, batting seventh, jacks a three run homer on the first pitch in the top of the second!!!
Could it be!?
Dom Smith jacks a three run homer in the top of the sixth breaking out of a slump where his batting average had gone from .363 just a couple weeks ago to .323 before that HR!
Pitcher threw 12 pitches during Smith’s at bat!
What a truly professional batter, fighting off pitch after pitch to run the count to 3-2!
a great pickup by Anthopolis!!
Braves lead 8-1!
Dom just hit a triple which turned into a little league inside the park HR!
And he slowed up twice rounding first and rounding third! A collision in the outfield and an error by the shortstop!
Can’t make this stuff up!!
I love the ABS Challenge System and 3D strke zone. No more plate umpire bias.
No more American League strike zone vs. National League strike zone. Allegedly, the A.L. was known for having a larger more pitcher-friendly strike zone.
I hated some of those strikes called in the 1996 (?) WS between the Braves and the Yankees.
Does anyone know if ABS and the 3D strike zone were both implemented this year?
Pretty unreal that Baseball has gotten it right lately. Wouldn't have bet on that.
Reaping the benefits too the game is getting more popular.
Sped the game up. Replay. Eliminating the shift. Now ABS. All were positive changes IMO. There were others as well.
They did it the right way too testing these things thoroughly in the minors.
Nobody wants to watch 3hr + long games. Take today's game for example. 2 hours 27 minutes and it was only a pitching duel on one side.
I went back and looked at random box scores from the 20's. Games back then seemed to be around 2hrs and often less. Was a different game. By the 50's and 70's we are up to around 2.5 hr games. Similar game. After getting over 3hrs recently we are getting close to back around 50's level 2.5 hr games.
Again amazing they got it right and have on so many things lately.
