The smirk part is the cop being butthurt. Now if it had been me I move away on demand. However, I just got through watching a video a few minutes ago where a white guy got thown down and pummled for zero reason than sitting in his car and asking why he was being asked to get out of his car with his 3 year old daughter sleeping in the back seat when he was pulled over for a speeding ticket. The guy complies, even though no reason given after trying to ask why and when he gets out of the car willingly on his own the cop leg whips him and is on top of him kneeing him in the ribs. ButI digress. Oh, and he went to court and was exonerated in KY.
You people on here are amazing. The fact is, if a police officer tells you to move, you move. You don't have to like it but you do it. You are defending Branch solely because he is a football player and yet you are saying the officer was harassing him solely because he is a football player. If it was someone you didn't like, you'd say they got what they deserved.
An officer was doing his job and had just responded to an "altercation" at the same location (a few yards away). It makes total sense to tell Branch to step aside and clear the way.
Excessive? Maybe but still, he was given a lawful command and for whatever reason, the only thing you people on here can do is blame the police. And if you think they target athletes, what about the dozens of other stories you aren't reading because the subject isn't an athlete? Many on here would argue against "protesters" defying police but for some reason this example is OK with you? I dare you to defy a police officer's orders. You wouldn't because you know, like it or not, you have to obey or there are consequences. Branch found out and you people are defending him while disparaging an officer who had just responded to a fight (altercation). Again, simply because you are blinded by the fact that Branch is an athlete.
All I can say is I’m glad we had both a top notch officer of the law & world class journalist on the spot to let me know I can sleep peacefully in the future because we took a criminal mastermind off the street for being too **** to move along when “Barney” shouted “Nothing to see here. Return to your homes”! The $39 bond won’t even cover the the gas used to transport Z. Branch & the other unnamed desperado to jail. It’s a little telling that the suspect responsible for the alleged altercation was not named nor was their any info about the altercation.
Problem is “What we have here is a failure to communicate “! Maybe we need a little more public relations training for the ACCPD & the UGAPD. Maybe the university & Athens-Clarke County officials need to have billboards all over town with the message “Don’t be an idiot!!!” I do wonder where Branch’s agent & parents were. “Z my boy. You’re on the verge of being a top pick in the upcoming NFL draft. You are about to have MILLIONS$$$$$! Please for the love of all that is holy. DON’T DO ANYTHING ****!!!!”
