Kirby Smart and Lane Kiffin are as close as any two head coaches in the league.

This seems obvious imo. There’s also a lot that’s obvious about Lane Kiffin to anyone with a functioning brain who’s paying attention.
Is there a recruiting angle? Something like:
These guys are obviously great players. They were good enough to get a shot at the NFL. But bringing a guy back from an NFL camp for one season isn’t really about the players development. It’s about acquiring a finished product who can help you win immediately.
Depending on your team, you might love it as a fan. To me, it says something about a coach’s philosophy. Some coaches are developers. They recruit players, teach them, and make them substantially better over three or four years. Others are increasingly roster managers and systems guys who find experienced players who already fit the system and plug them in.
If I were a high school recruit, I’d pay close attention to that. Look at which programs are actually developing freshmen and sophomores into starters and NFL players versus increasingly filling those spots through the portal or now potentially with guys coming back from NFL camps. If your goal is development, then don’t go to the schools pulling in these players or relying on the portal so heavily.
I don’t know if this would be effective. Can’t hate a kid for just wanting some short term money when the league isn’t guaranteed, and you don’t want to alienate those players.
This is a temporary problem affecting only the high school class of '22, which was left out of the 5-for-5 ruling. Moving forward, student-athletes will have five years to compete in college. A few players will want to come back, but they'll have to do it before school starts to be eligible.
plus the money he would have to spend on NFL players now he can give his coordinators another big raise😝 ok that’s a joke so hold the flames.. on a serious note, why didn’t Kirby hire Faulkner as OC when TM left for the NFL? He’s the OC at Florida now I think. Go dawgs and Lane is going to do everything he can to win a natty.
i think Kirby trusted Bobo more. They tried to bring in Buster as co-OC after 2024 season but he wanted the full title and stayed with GT. Would imagine he will take a HC job in the next 1-2 seasons
