I love and respect Coach Richt and hope he’s doing the best possible. He will always be a DGD to me !
He overestimate CFB enthusiasm...imo. people that used to plan their weekend around CFB are finding other interests. Like the WNBA. Lol
Yeah that’s true to an extent. But there are still allot of fans who won’t stop watching them .Until they pull such stunts as kneeling to the Ntl. Anthem etc. Even then there will be some watching.
Me and you and others have been Dawgs fans for far too long to just quit. We’re addicts Lol !! I Do have limits though. And allot of damage has been done to CFB. What stinks so bad is the NCAA could have fixed this long ago. But sat on their haunches. Things might still have changed to this bad place over time. But it’d probably took quite a few more years to get there.
I still enjoy it but it’s definitely not what it used to be. Many of our kids, grandkids, and great grandkids will never get to see the CFB that you and me got to enjoy. Sad.
What's really hilarious... is Senator Kennedy (R/LA)....is threatening to get Congress involved "like a hobo on a ham sandwich"... and had the audacity to call the SEC " d.u.m.b as a rock" for attempting to actually enforce a rule he and the State of Louisiana disagree with.
My question to Mr Kennedy would be..."Why now?....Are you losing some gift money by losing SEC funds?".
The NCAA & pretty much all the major Schools and Conferences have been BEGGING Congress to "get involved like a hobo on a ham sandwich" (tic) in order to save CFB.
They won't do THAT....but, they will get involved to assist a University with skirting the rules. Hmmmm. Why?
While I agree with Richt, it can’t be denied that fans are becoming increasingly salty. The distance between players and fans is growing as they are professionals now, but they are minor league professionals. The product isn’t as good as the NFL but the representation of our schools is decreasing. There may be a breaking point in the future. I’d be curious to understand if there are “enthusiasm metrics” or some sort of sentiment analysis being done and whether fan support is increasing or decreasing.
Richt is right in one respect—there will always be people to watch college football. But if they don’t get the sport under control in terms of salaries and transfers, the audience will be severely limited. The sport is losing one of the things that made it great—the fan identification with and interest in the growth players who remain with their team. Unlimited transfers, no contracts, insane spending on unproven minors from HS, these ills weaken fan interest. I still want to watch Georgia, but have less interest in watching other games than I was in the past. That may be a bigger problem for the sport than people realize.
The biggest issue is the cost of going to a college football game. It has become absolutely ridiculous as the prices are eclipsing pro sports pricing. You used to be able to take your family to a Georgia game in Athens for less than $100. Now it's going to cost you at least $100 per person just to attend the game and that's without food and souvenirs.
Yep....turning Amateur Athletics into another Disney Amusement for $$$.
No wonder Disney & ESPN are looking to corner the market.

I'm not a big fan of complaining about the prices to attend a game. If the cost is too high, how do they sell out every game? How do they sell $600K of beer every game? So blame the popularity of the sport, not the venue (hate the game, not the player). Just like Disney prices, the prices will continue to rise until the demands starts to drop. For all of the belly-aching and complaining about college football changing, it doesn't seem to me the demand has fallen off based on the prices.
Exactly right! Basically....When Demand exceeds Supply....prices follow, until they equalize or become regulated. Conversely....when Supply exceeds Demand....prices fall. However...To prevent having to give the product away.….Supply is regulated to stabilize pricing. And, all that good stuff. Lol
Imo...None of that applies to CFB. The Supply has remained relatively the same over the last hundred years. The quality has improved...because of private donations, Taxpayer funding and TV/Entertainment money....etc. Not because of ticket prices or hotdog money.
Lol....without "Fans in the Stan's"....CFB ain't CFB. So the Fans in the Stands provide the backdrop for the television venue....i.e. college Gameday.
In other words....if you're in the stands during a live broadcast...YOU are an Extra on a television show...AND...should be paid accordingly. Instead...they charge you to be in their production. Hmmm.?
Anyway.......Demand has always exceeded Supply at the D1 LVL. However, the fact that we're talking about a taxpayer/consumer funded enterprise.…the rules are different. Or, they darned well should be.
Who can you blame for high ticket and concession prices? What entity in DIV1 CFB actually calls the shots? Lol.
That's why Michigan can get away with adding a second to the game clock. Who's gonna stop em? Regardless of the outcome of the investigation....Michigan still gets the WIN. And, it didn't cost a thing. Maybe, some fall-guy in Michigan gets a slap on the wrist....maybe not. Lol.
I believe...sooner or later....a lot of formerly honest programs are gonna start skirting the rules and disrespecting the game. Cause...A. Money....B. Prestige.... and C. Nobody is gonna hold em accountable. There will always be a patsy to take the fall.…and the WINs will still count.
Especially, in Michigan & Ohio. Lol

I just, never thought UGA would engage in those lowlife tactics. This new Firewall thing that costs $20 to watch highlights?!?...No! The Dawgs' Athletic Administration needs to revisit that nonsense....and counsel the people that came up with it.
