It’s more a controversial religious statement than a controversial political statement. Every dominant world power mentioned in the Bible is treated as if it were an impediment to God’s will. I’m vaguely remembering a verse where Michael is delayed because he’s fighting with the Prince of Persia for 21 days.

Assuming God would bless the USA... Not. A very safe assumption at all.
