That's because they have to ask the snakes for it. If the snake says no, somebody has to take it from them. They would have to give me some new car money to do that job. I don't mind snakes either.I have had several non-venomous ones.
@RxDawg Actimmune is pretty expensive. 50k a month
@Bankwalker - saw one rattler around my west Texas deer lease house all of last fall. Usually see more. Thought we were in good shape.
Started cleaning out under the house last Saturday and pulled out 69 rattlesnakes. After that thought it a good idea to clean out from under some of the other buildings. Got 25 more.
Had 3 other 14 year old boys at the place along with my son. All had long snake grabbers and were running around to catch them and put them in big trash cans.
I believe my son has three friends whose parents probably won't let them come to the deer lease any longer.
Yep! Usually $25K to $35k for treatment. But I've also heard/read that the majority of the people bitten, are ones who are trying to handle or kill the snake. More than likely they won't strike unless threaten.
Up in the NC mountains, close to 30 years ago, I had a tick attach itself to the tip of my johnson. No joke. Didn't even know it was there until I was taking a shower after a day in the woods.
When my friend asked me how it got there, I said, "Don't know. I reckon he crawled up my ankle and attached to the first thing he saw." It wasn't fun but it was funny.
And the true meaning of a SHORT story........😆
Wonder what kind of antivenom the previous mods used for @a_rattler?
Sheesh, they must have had one heck of a food source to have that many.
They overwinter in clusters. Ive read stories out of Texas where the same kind of numbers have been found. Not the kind fo place where you want to be using an outbouse.
Tell me more about this permethrin and where do you find it. Also, what brand of base layers are you using?
In the town I grew up in there was a rattlesnake roundup done annually by the local Wildlife Club. After the snakes were caught, they were milked for their venom that was then used to make antivenom. This was all brought about because a local youth was bitten many times by a rattlesnake. This arts and crafts festival is still done annually. I'm not sure if the snake milking continues.
I have no idea what they were eating. But while hibernating they don't really eat.
Certain cities ( like where I'm from) pay 2.50 a foot for all types of rattlesnakes. Dead or alive.
Google Sawyer Permethrin. It stinks when you spray it but dries odorless. You can get it at Dicks, Walmart, and the internet. It’s ready to use right out of the store. It really does work great. Don’t forget to treat your hats and socks. You can buy a bottle of concentrate in a different brand, like a pest control company would purchase, if you need a lot That’s what I finally did Permethrin is permethrin as long as you get the “odorless” stuff. Anyone who hikes, hunts, camps, or spends time in the woods should be using the stuff.
My base layera are mostly Nike and UA stuff. Mostly UA. It’s worth the money. I also wear snake boots and tuck my pants inside to keep stuff from walking up my legs. The boots are nice if only because they deflect briars really well. I pay attention to keeping my shirts tucked. The base layer long sleeved shirt gets tucked inside the leggings, outer shirt inside my pants. I also think wearing a collared shirt helps. I try not to walk thru branches with leaves on them.
@texdawg You said you were “cleaning out under the house and buildings”. How high off the ground are the floors? Were you “hands and knees”? If so, that’s too hardcore for my blood. Makes me rub my knees together just thinking about it. 🧝♂️
