Great point, I will say Waddle was a much better football player though. Just saying this because I don’t want folks thinking Wren is an immediate impact guy. He will need to develop, but he’d be one of fastest players on the team. It’s also not a done deal with Henning; the situation is curious and silly. I’m sure staff is working on it as we type.
It is sooooooo rare.
If this guy is a true 4.3 - I don't care what he is rated or how big he is. He just needs to be at least a little larger than the football.

As long as Georgia is signing classes in the 300 plus pt range - Dawg fans should be very satisfied and excited. 300 plus pts is an elite recruiting class whether it finishes 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Henning: 4.46 40 yard time
Corey Wren: 10.4 100 meter
Arian Smith: 10.39 100 meter
It's safe to say they all hover around 4.4 or lower in the 40.
Eh, I'm a broken record and in the end it doesn't mean a hill of beans what I or any of us think. I'm quite sure that Kirby and Hankton know what they're doing.
Again, I will fully admit that I'm stargazing to a certain extent: I don't think there's enough info out there for us to say anything other than that the kid has speed.
I get what @texdawg and others are saying about speed being very rare and they know a hell of a lot more about football than me. It just seems to me that it's also a bit rare to actually be able to turn a track guy into a polished receiver. The NFL draft is full of guys drafted purely on speed who didn't work out, and those are guys who played in college.
Could be a great pickup but again, I don't really think anyone can really say one way or another. If he signs I'll be pulling for him. I just continue to wonder why we are taking on projects at a position that is thinner than most. And if the disclaimer on bringing a guy in is that he needs a possible RS, major strength training, and presumably lots of instruction, he's a project.
The fact that there is film out on so many more players these days means that more guys get attention than ever before which is good. It also means that there probably aren't as many hidden gems. Yet this kid apparently plays for a powerhouse program in a big city in a football mad state yet only our guys and the ones at ASU and Houston took notice? LSU doesn't know about this kid?
Anyway, my last tilt at the windmill as y'all are more than sick of hearing it. Just sayin...if we were taking on projects like this at almost any other position, while there would seem to be other options still available, I think more people would care. Hopefully he works out and GO DAWGS!!!
P.S.: I'll be totally happy to eat crow in any # of ways if I'm wrong. I'm not dogging the guy or rooting against him. I'm not saying I don't trust the coaches either: I just wonder about the strategy when it comes to this position.
Seems to me that even if he can't catch worth a lick, at the very least a 4.3 guy would stretch the defense and make space for the other play makers to work.
Kirby & staff are recruiting so well that it seems the only 3 stars they take are ones that might be raw, but have some unique traits (size and/or speed). A great recent example is Stokes. Team is so stacked now that we don't want to have to rely on freshman. Some of these raw players ("project" sounds too negative) may have more upside than some higher ranked players. Basically Kirby is getting blue chips and a few that could turn out to be even better. Great time to be a Dawg!
I feel like a good comparison we recently pursued might be Faalele. Around this time his rising senior summer he was unheard of and truly lacked fundamental OL skills. Really all he had going for him at the time was his size and athleticism. But once there was noise that Pittman was interested, the tone went from questioning "why him" to an optimistic "Pittman can mold him to our game and make him a star." I also question the transition of track star highlights to UGA level WR/KR talent, but know the staff has thought through it a million times more and has million$ on the line in their decisions. If anything, this is the best year ever to find a rare talent, raw WR thanks to last year's haul and force opposing teams to game plan for a much more dynamic offense.
Final thought on Faalele, he's making noise at Minn and may or may not become an NFL level player, but I'm still curious to see what Pittman could have done with him.
