Great night to be a Dawg fan!
I feel good about the game over all. Started out looking like a well oiled machine on both sides of the ball. Very impressive.
Then it looked like the offense started losing some focus. I'm sure that's also partly due to Mason's defense making some good adjustments, and with the way the game was going why not keep it simple as to not show Notre Dame any more than necessary.
The Dawg's did cover the spread and it was the first game. There's plenty to clean up but there is also plenty of positives with the receiver's looking good and Zamir running with a Nick Chubb like style. That kid is a load.
I was mostly very pleased with the defense and special teams, minus the unnecessary penalties.
The fourth "quick takeaway" from this game was that LeCounte did not learn how to tackle in the off-season. The kid could be truly great - but, the two times he was highlighted was for a facemask and when the RB blew him up in space. Just speaking for me, I think I would start to rotate in Otis Reece and/or Lewis Cine.
This was a typical Georgia Bulldog performance. We have all the talent and depth on the planet but our coaches apparently have not been able to apply it for the last three years. There was a roll up of the game on another site that basically said the that Georgia came out to an early lead and was content to sit on the lead for the second half. The facts are that Georgia struggled to pass block all night, the best offensive line in college football forgot how to do it's job after halftime, our receivers, when called on, couldn't get open and when they did, fumbled the ball. Unless this is a case of Kirby trying to be a bit covert about the playbook before the ND game, our play calling is challenged and we do not have a passing game at all. We can and should rely on a foundation of RTDB but there must be a legitimate pass threat and by all indications of the game last night, there's not. Jake Fromm is amazing as stated above and I wouldn't want anyone else for my Georgia Bulldog Team but he struggled with accuracy on some simple throws last night. If not for some solid defense our lead would have been erased just like the ones we had against Alabama in "17 and "18. It looks a whole lot like a repeat season from the three years past. Championship level talent with the coaches inability to apply it and motivate excellence. We think we're bought in but we're not. I hope when Kirby tells us we have a lot to go back and work on this week, it works.
The Havoc rate was through the roof last night. Glad to have seen the defense keep the V out of the end zone.
The offense looked dominant at times but only because V has a medicore defense. Swift did NOT look like his old self, I'm willing to bet we will eventually learn he was "not 100% for that game." I didn't see on patented dead-leg from him last night. The passing game was anemic at best. Bama and Clemson would have demolished Vanderbilt yesterday, we simply beat them.
The good news is that we will only get better as the year continues and we have two more scrimmage opponents prior to ND.

Why do so many feel the need to tack "at best" onto every critique? If you have to exaggerate to make your point, maybe it's not worth making.
Great to see ZW performing without apparent difficulty. Hopefully, any first game butterflies have been dismissed.
Good first effort. Please work on an effective pass rush and eliminating most penalties. I cannot think of anything more effective at creating havoc than a great pass rush.

Been watching the Bulldogs for over 50 years. Best times were listening to the Bulldogs on a Sat. on radio with Larry Munson. Many people out there don't subscribe to the $200 - $300 cable bill TV, so they don't get the espn channel. This weekend, they did not get to see the Bulldogs on local TV, but they did get to see Auburn play a west coast team and lose on top of that. Of course I did not waste my time watching auburn play, but what a shame that is all many Georgia fans got this weekend. What a slap in the face.
