Georgia's Kirby Smart 'going to put the hammer down' Murray State game week
Georgia football coach Kirby Smart is going to pit his starters against one another in practice on Monday, setting a tone for Murray State game week

I would definitely love to see them throw it more. But I know they won’t.
I think they will as the receivers get more in game experience
The receivers weren't the problem on Saturday. The incomplete pass to Simmons was high and could have gotten him killed. It also could've been a pick if the deep safety had been in the right place. The two throws to Pickens were not great throws. The first should have/could have been a TD if Jake makes it a jump ball. Kearis' fumble was the most negative thing. Landers looked good, and D-Rob has game-changing speed. There were LOTS of good downfield blocks, so I think the WRs will be a strength, and soon. The biggest positive I saw was the overall team speed on defense, even on the DL. Jordan Davis is gonna be a beast! It may be awhile before anyone outruns our defense. Campbell's recovery on the flagged pass to Pinckney was impressive. I went ballistic at the flag, as I thought the timing of the contact was practically perfect, he just didn't look back. I don't know if they would have flagged him or not as you can't commit interference against an INeligible receiver. Would be interesting to ask Steve Shaw or the LJ (or HL) about that. Yeah, it seemed like the OL either lost a little focus after the three TDs, or maybe Vandy's D is decent and made great adjustments. I just hope the OL's pride is wounded hearing all the short-yardage sniping. I thought the DL looked pretty good, and you have to give Vaughn some credit. Looked a lot like Chubb running--hits hard and keeps his feet moving. LBs look fast and deep and had good tackle dispersion. Oh, Lawrence Cager and Eli Wolf look like playahs! Overall, I think it's a decent start on the road in the conference, where nothing is easy. I see a really good team getting blooded and reasons to be hungry. And for us to be excited. Go Dawgs!
The only think I saw Kirby irritated by was your questions Mike. Maybe it’s becuase you have a history of manipulating his words to fit your agenda?
Personally, I think we played a pretty good game Saturday. Not great. Too many unnecessary penalties and too many 3rd downs not turned into 1st downs. Yet, it's the first game of the season. We have (2) more patsy teams to play before ND, so we've got time to iron out the kinks.
What I was a bit disappointed in was not seeing a more aggressive offense in the 2nd half. Fromm is a great game manager, but I've yet to see him consistently and accurately use his arm DOWNFIELD (not just the little shuttle passes). Teams will try to pressure him since he is not a very mobile QB. They will try and stuff the run and force us to pass. Fromm has got to air it out some more in these easier games in order to get some quality reps in against competition. The (2) areas that concern me most this year are Fromm's lack of mobility & consistent/accurate passing game along with our defense.
This needs to be our year. We've got the talent, and the perfect schedule along with (2) nicely placed OFF weeks to make this a season to remember. There should be no excuses for not winning the games and at least being in the mix for making the playoffs.
Up 21 - 0 after three possessions. Averaging almost 10 yards per carry. And at this point in the game, according to many of of the comments on the blogs, we were supposed to treat the rest of the game like a scrimmage and "practice" our downfield passing game? That's pure idiocy! This was a conference game within our division! How's the best way to keep an inferior opponent in a game? Turnovers and three and outs! As the Bear said, " On a pass, there are three things that can happen. Two of them are bad." There is plenty for the Dawgs to improve on this week IN PRACTICE! I could care less about being entertained by taking the ball our of the hands of the best group of RBs in the nation to practice throwing the ball all over the field and risking field position and letting Vandy back in the game. I am always entertained watching the Dawgs win by 24 on the road against a conference opponent!
Shoot the Hooch, I generally agree with the philosophy of applying a choke hold with the run game once a comfortable lead is established. Still, with a receiving corps as in need of experience as this one, I would have liked to have seen a bit more passing in the second half. I'm hoping the reason that we didn't see that was the fact that it was an SEC opponent, and we'll see it aired out more in the next two weeks.
“We’ve got to expand, do more things, throw the ball down the field, stretch the field, get the wideouts the ball,” Smart said.
After 1 game it is obvious Demetris Robinson is one of your best offensive players. Stop playing around with the guy and turn him loose. He is not on the field enough. After 1 game, he has established he deserves to be on the field. Now all you need to do is use him within the concept of your offense.
Dang, UGA wins a SEC opener, and all the fans want more passing, and more passing. Kirby ain't a passing coach.
No need to throw it if they cant stop the run.Mike go back to Tenn you're a Dawgs hater and it shows.
Pretty sure Mike has "seen the light" since he starting covering our Dawgs...
The secondary in practice is much more talented than the one the WRs will see in games until maybe Florida. UGA is set in the secondary for years.
