Not sure what Kirby being a first time head coach has to do with offensive philosophy?
The game is always changing.
Look at what Saban has had to do over the last 10 years.
Lincoln Riley was a first year coach and lead the country in offense for his first 2 years and he is taking Bama's scraps and dominating offensive stats and philosophy once again in 2019 and now he has a pulse on defense.
They only run about .5 more plays per game than UGA, the only difference is they take shots and design the plays really well.
Lincoln is playing chess whil everyone else is playing checkers.
He has slowed down the tempo this year in order to help his defense, but still producing explosive plays.
No reason UGA can't do the same.
It's not like we don't have the athletes.
Sorry to keep the thread off topic.
Washington next to Commit.
I think the question on the portal is:
(1) is you name Luke Ford?
yes: you will be required to sit out 1 year
no: you may participate right away.
Mecole started off as a db and didn’t get any playing time. He was drinking from a fire hose his first year.
all part of the issue with utilization of weapons.
Being a first time HC has a lot to with offensive philosophy. He has not managed both sides of a team before and that lack of experience impacts your decisions. He comes at it from a defensive mindset primarily. And he is learning (I hope) that such a perspective should be broadened. With age and experience, he will moderate his stance just as Saban did.
I'm not saying we "can't" do what Riley does. I'm saying an inexperienced defensive HC would likely be less flexible in doing something that could make it harder on D. He sees the world in a totally different way from Coach Riley.
We should take this to a different thread, but the point I'm trying to get across is that Oklahoma's offense is misunderstood. People see their competition and defense and think they kill their defense with that offense and think that UGA's ground and pound is the way to go. Oklahoma averaged .3 more plays per game than UGA in 2018 and had more rush yards and 1400 more pass yards and 21 more TDs than UGA and playing the same number of games.
How many times did UGA's defense get a stop and then Chaney's cute playcalling back fired and then the defense was forced to run right back out there. Personally I'd rather take our chances with 3 straight deep throws and draw a PI or make a highlight catch with our big WR's than try to block 9 defenders with 5 OL & 1 TE for 3 straight plays.
Swift and that OL would still be able to wear down the other team once we got to the second half.
We still aren't taking the shots that we need to 20-30+ yards down the field enough.
IMO we need at least 1 of those in the first 3 plays of every drive.
at least try to draw a PI.
@dgd829 I think Washington will be the next to commit.
And I don't disagree with much of what you've said. I get your point. My point is you're asking CKS to do something that he's not yet experienced enough as a HC to do--to moderate his offensive philosophy. To be fair--he experienced it working under Saban.
On the commitment front--I hope Evans commits this week, but doubt it because of the poison Jimbo may have fed him last weekend.
Go Dawgs!
Also I hope Zirkle can punt because we have a major liability in that position right now.
Not saying Camarda doesn't have the leg or ability to change that narrative, but he has had some bad punts in crucial situations in 2018 & 2019. Our offensive sputtering & poor punting have given teams a bunch of points thus far this year.
Anyone have any information on potential commitments?
Someone could commit at any time after this weekend.
Please take conversations not dealing with next to commit somewhere else.
Big news. Kid’s a player.
I'd pass on him
Headed to Oklahoma
Might I ask why
who is this someone?

Maybe we could grab Spencer Rattler if King goes to OU.
5'11, not a great passer. Tendency to scramble rather than stay in the pocket.
This board needs Ritalin.
Next to commit 2020 only. If someone goes off topic don't respond.
Transfers commit too.
When a QB with 50 TDs in 2018 basically announces that he’s going to transfer, I think it’s fair game for this thread. Especially when we could very well be without a clear heir at QB. Just my $0.02.
Disagree on his passing abilities. Think he’s very good for the college level. Read though that he’s actually closer to 5’10 so you have me there. Probably haven’t watched enough of him yet to see how he handles himself in the pocket.
