3 Georgia football takeaways: Players, not plays, key to success
ATHENS — It was an **** loss for Georgia that will not soon go away, a page of football history that Jake Fromm and the 2019 Bulldogs will have to live with for life. But the final chapter has not yet been written. The same players who lost 20-17 in double overtime to South Caroline still control the ending. Fact is,

Why do we insist on having Fromm hand off the ball as if he is reading the defense and has the "option" to keep it, even when everyone on earth knows he will never actually keep it?
Coley seems to think this action "freezes" the linebackers, when in reality they are already sprinting towards the running back, who they KNOW will have the ball when they arrive.
I just don't get it. Fromm is an excellent quarterback, but he is no threat to keep it, even on plays when he clearly SHOULD!
Oh and I have to say this one last thing... I love Fromm dearly and we can't win without him. But for a quarterback who receives so much praise for what he does "before the snap", he sure does seem to be surprised by the blitz an awful lot.
I miss Mike Bobo's playcalling. I miss having a blocking fullback.
Go dogs.
I like your articles, Mike. You bring good insight and honest truth. You state more than the obvious, which is good for someone like me with average football knowledge.
The biggest problem is see is the offense line way over rated.
Coley wasnt very good in his previous and hasn’t improved. We need a top notch offensive coordinator that can bring some creativity to our offense.
I don't know if it's the biggest, but it was depressing to watch them get manhandled all day Saturday, allowing pressure on Fromm.
Need more of Blaylock, less of Simmons until his brace comes off. He is too undependable, at least while dealing with this injury. And Landers should see mop up duty only. His positive play% has got to be terrible. Gotta get the guys on the field that can get better separation. Fromm was having to hold the ball too long waiting for a breaking receiver. OL can only keep them off of him for so long.
it's the players.....not motivated
it's the plays.......... repetitive, not working and not creative
and it's the coaches most of all......they don't motivate the players, they continue to call the same plays that never work over and over and over and over .....and they don't know how to manage the game and make the right calls
overall no creativity in the play calling and coaches that can't coach.......starting from the top down
Been in a coma since Saturday, what the Hell happened?
It's great that UGA puts so much emphasis on run blocking from the wide receiver position.
Can we now focus a little more on route-running and catching?
''Players not plays'' That comment alone shows why he shouldn't be an OC
Guess when Steve Spurier rotated 5 QBs a game and still averaged over 500 yards a game in offense it was just the players not the scheme and the plays …. The fact he set Offensive records at Duke that still stand today was the players not the plays ….. The fact that Hal Mummy lit things up every where he coached it was just the players and now his loon assistant Mike Leach light things up on offense everywhere he coaches is based just on the fact players follow him
Come On Man
5-7 yard out routes - multiple end arounds - screen passes - run up the middle from shot gun formation into a 10 men in the box
I see why they got rid of him at FL St. His type of junk finesse offense will look great against teams that cant match up speed and athlete's on the outside however against good def coaches and teams that can match up on the outside this offensive scheme of just let the players do it will be a crutch
Bring back the FB (truly helps while running into a 10 man box)
Bring back Bobo (pay him whatever it takes to quit being a head coach and come home ans run the offense ) or hire someone like him. Maybe bring Mcclendon back he just used a 3rd string QB at SC to whoop the hell out of the man who didn't think he was a good enough coach to hang around in Athens ….. Last I looked when CMR resigned the offense looked decent without him while McClendon run the show
