One of my all time favorite Dawgs

George Patton was recruited by Vince Dooley in his first year at Georgia. He was recruited as a QB, but I think CVD always had him pegged a d lineman. CVD was right and after one year as a scout team QB, the "General" was playing on the defense. In a game against Alabama in his first year he returned an interception for a TD, if my memory serves me right. The QB who threw the past was none other than Joe Namath. UGA won the game and George went on to be an all American. My favorite story about the "General" was the 1966 Cotton bowl where Georgia handily beat SMU. As time was running out CVD kept a promise to George and put him in the game as a QB, and he one bad pass and then had a 16 yard run to end the game. Spurrier still has nightmares about George, because he hit him so hard. The "General was a DGD.

Unfortunately I am old enough to remember that 1966 Cotton Bowl. Patton was indeed a DGD.
