Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

Interesting, you learn something every day. I haven't seen the apostrophe in that scenario. I have always thought....
A "three and out"
Those "three and out"s

Thanks for this!
Don't forget son-in-laws...that drives me nuts...it's sons-in-law!
Thought I stumbled into the nerds message board for a minute.
I said three and outs a lot in the 4th qtr against LSU. Such as, How many &^%$# three and outs, can one team have.
Petition to rename the phrase “three-and-out” to “offensive offense”.
”Dad, we had four offensive offenses in the second half alone”.
I will never understand
*I ain't never gonna understand.
I figured as much Brandon. And I imagine most fans don't care one way or the other.
For those who do, the distinction is that "in-law" is a modifier for "sister" (so sisters gets pluralized just like courts martial and attorneys general), whereas "and out" does not modify "three." In other words, "three and out" is a phrase whereas sister-in-law is not.
But I think you should keep saying it like you do just for fun!
Growing up I was told "ain't" isnt a word. But now I'm told "ain't" is a word.
I hate English
More than one wants to know about apostrophe use. Rule 6 is a little known use, mentioned above by @AnotherDawg . Till later (Rule 9 Note).
EDIT: Left this off. V V
You're not wrong. Using the quotes is a different approach and perfectly ok in my book.
Keep it on topic!! ............/jk

Then I must apologize for all of my previous comments and grammar. You must cringe inside when you read my stuff. English, spelling, and grammar are not my forte and I'm not in denial about that. I can spell complex meds better than everyday words.
The mods are enforcing the rules on the mod's blog.
As for apostrophes with names -- which someone mentioned earlier in the thread, I believe I recently saw where the Associated Press (the group that establishes basic writing standards) is considering adding an apostrophe s to names that end in s to show possession. For instance, "Brandon Adams's show." That's the grossest thing I've ever heard. It just doesn't look right. I write my own name with s apostrophe when appropriate. "Brandon Adams' show."
That's interesting Brandon. Totally agree that Adams' is preferable, especially since it more actually reflects the way it would be spoken aloud.
How do we stop this?!
