Dawgs can build on determination that produced Sugar Bowl win
Georgia overcomes fan indifference, missing players in victory over Baylor.

Well that was impressive last night. After attending 11 consecutive bowl games and with the 2019 Sugar Bowl fiasco still fresh, I was a little cynical about this game going in.
Needless to say, the guys and coaches did a terrific job. Perhaps I’m being overly optimistic but this truly may be a turning point for the program. The younger players stepped in and became DGD’s for life IMO.
I have to acknowledge the past three seasons of one Deandre’ Swift. I will truly miss this young man as a player but also for the man he is. Peace and good luck to you my young friend.
As always, nice article Bill. Really enjoy your view on things. Hoping that 2020 is a good year for everyone that is a part of the DAWG Family..GoDAWGS!
Add Mr Dependable along with Swift.. Rodrigo Blankenship. Replacing UGA's all team leading scorer could prove to be a monumental task next season..GoDAWGS!
Did anyone notice.....maybe I just missed something...there was a play (I believe in the third quarter) where Baylor had the ball and it was an incomplete pass. Anyway they threw a flag on it and the ref was about to tell us the penalty and paused for a minute...then the next thing I know Baylor was running another play like the previous one never happened....Did that play just not count and I missed the announcers saying so?
Bill puts it perfectly...
" And, the fact that the Dawgs had to go to the bench for so many youngsters to replace those players not available — and still managed to win convincingly — lays a good foundation for next season, no matter which juniors still considering their options decided to depart for the NFL."
That's the golden ticket of last night's game. Next season will be another tough schedule opening up with Virginia and 2 weeks later in Tuscaloosa against Bama. Smart and the other coaches did well last night and had a good game plan. I loved seeing coaches Lanning and Luke so darn fired up on the sidelines! Glad the players came in hungry. That's what we need every single game. Impressed with Zeus, Pickens, Fromm, the patched OL, and the entire defense.
GO DAWGS! Natty in 2020!!
Yes! It was like the Twilight Zone, like the previous play didn't exist and the announcers were blabbering so much about something else, that they never explained it. Maybe someone at the game has some insight.

Baylor got another down out of it and glad I wasn't imagining the Twilight Zone set of plays.
Indeed, that was driving me crazy! Should have been either 1st and 20 or 2nd and 10. But no, 1st and 10 it was.
I noticed on a previous Baylor drive, possibly the one right before, that the ESPN graphic was a down behind on second and third down before finally being corrected once fourth down came up. So on the one with the holding flag, it's possible that the penalty was declined (though I don't know why it would have been) bringing up 2nd and 10, ESPN was wrong on the down (again), and Baylor's third down conversion was actually a fourth down conversion. I guess we'll never know.
Excellent read Bill! You are the King of Dawgnation.
I agree, it was a special season and this win will likely, yet again, mean more to this program than we could have predicted.
Thank you to the Seniors and all the DGD that are leaving for the NFL.
Thanks Bill, I think this might be your best article of the year. You nicely explained why the year can be both a dissappointment and a success at the same time. Tough to do.
"After all, it was a season that saw Georgia beat four Top 10 teams, all its longtime rivals, and maintain its mastery of Notre Dame". Well said, Bill.
Considering how the receiving corps was decimated by injury, I would consider a 12-2 season with wins over four top 10 teams a success. The future is bright...
Perfect take on a great season. The work these kids do is mind boggling. In 2020, I hope we can all come to show more respect for their efforts. They make mistakes, as we all do, but mostly they are errors of enthusiasm. Some are costly on and off the field. Be compassionate in your criticism. We lost Pickens for the first half of the SECCG, but he whupped that sorry, low life, slide rule sucker's a$$!! Happy New Year!
