Rapid reload for Georgia offense: Closer look at returning, incoming Bulldogs
Georgia football is in for an overhaul on offense with quarterback Jake Fromm leaving and four departing offensive linemen
Comments
We're in for a wild ride Dawg fans....expect change, turbulence, ups and down next year on offense! Still amazes me how a Top 5 program like UGA however ends up in such a QB situation...feels like perhaps we were unprepared.
How did we end up in the QB situation? It's called the transfer portal. Fields could have been the savior...but then again, he would have had to actually attend classes if he had remained at UGA!
No offense and no football teams (2020) campaign can sustain the attrition that as transpired over the last 5 weeks on the offensive side of the ball...
We will be replacing 8 starters and 3 or 4 heavily rotated players this fall and potentially even one more Off Lineman (Big Ben)
Do you want proof of what happened this past year on our supposed dominant offense.... Please reference the two starting receivers and one starting TE that bolted early into the league along with a 2nd string half starter running back named Holyfield. .... This past years painful offense was dreadful and at times an incompetent attempt at keeping up with competitors fast changing and high scoring Off machines.... Ie. LSWHO!
Reality of the know:
Right now today the East has become a 4 horse race.... UF, UT, SC (All three hv returning QB's) and UGA . Yes are DEF will be a machine but Def's don't win championships anymore.... High scoring OFF's DO and as of today our offense is in SHAMBLES!!!
Well done, Griff!
We need a Vandagriff commitment sooner rather than later to take the edge off the news of today! Bring in Costello to hold down the fort in 2020 and a five star stud like Brock for 2021 and the Dawgs are in business!
You don't win in the SEC without a NFL caliber QB. You don't lose 3 of 11 starters on offense and call it a reload. Heck, the attrition alone at WR killed us last year. This will be nothing short a rebuild on offense. And we will still have Coley on the staff calling the plays. It is a good thing we have a great defense coming back because we'll have to win a lot of close low scoring games. But the thought of going to Alabama with a guy making his 3rd start is scary.
It's hard to imagine our 2020 offense can be worse than 2019....but I'm starting to unfortunately believe it now. I think Kirby's obsession with the Defense to the detriment of the Offense is starting to show it's **** head. Scoring more than 20 points/game may be chore for us next year....that will lose us at least 3 games. HOWEVER, if Kirby is the coach we're paying him to be, he will use next year to transition to a dynamic offense in 2021.
We'll get through this just fine, but CKS is going on his 5th season with only one playoff appearance. Fans expect the Dawgs to be in the playoff conversation in 2020. Top 5 recruiting classes year-after-year need to produce results. All teams have injuries and transfers. The elite teams work through all that and offer no excuses.
No matter what, we'd better figure out all of this by the 3rd week in September when we play Bama in Tuscaloosa.
Kirby may be a great coach, but he is 0-2 against Bama and 0-2 against LSU. If he goes 0-3 against Bama then the fans will go berserk. We play Auburn just 3 weeks later and Virginia the first game of the season. It certainly will not be an easy schedule.
GO DAWGS!
From Bleacher report today...
" Nine 10-win seasons in a row. Five straight ACC titles. Five consecutive trips to the College Football Playoff. Four appearances in the national championship game. Two, perhaps three, victories on that prestigious stage.
After a near-decade of Clemson's excellence, that list surprises nobody who follows the sport on even an occasional basis.
As long as Swinney, Elliott and Venables are in place, the program will have a sturdy foundation of leadership. And, without a doubt, an impressive arrangement of talent.
For competing teams, the scariest part should be Clemson is just now starting to sign the highest-rated prospects at an Alabama-like rate. Over the last 10 recruiting cycles—including the current 2020 phase—Clemson has one top-five finish.
One.
And it's the No. 1 class in 2020.
While 10 straight top-25 hauls is perfectly fine, Clemson hadn't secured consecutive top-10 classes before 2018 (seventh) and 2019 (10th). The ranking typically hovered around 15th. Stars don't mean everything, but top-level recruiting, as Bud Elliott of Banner Society notes, has proved a necessary condition of winning titles. "
Clemson doesn't even get the best recruits, but Clemson has consistent coaching, player development, and leadership. The top assistants don't leave. Sure, the ACC is a pretty weak conference, but Clemson has won almost all of their playoff games. They aren't a fluke.
Can Kirby somehow get the Dawgs program to THIS kind of level? I hope so.
@SportsDashBoard...
That's not Clemson's fault. And you obviously are nit picking the article information. Clemson wins the big games - most all their playoff games - and has made the playoffs 5 times with 2 Nattys thus far. The Dawgs haven't come anywhere close to producing those kind of results.
Clemson has beaten Bama twice in the playoffs, and CKS is 0-2 against that same Bama team. Will CKS be 0-3 against Bama after September 19th?
I hope LSU wins, but I know Clemson has a decent chance of winning.
Great responses by you posters. It is all about offense with UGA...and continues to be...unprepared at QB .....Kirby just is not into offense...now has to scramble to the TP to grab somebody with two arms and two legs...that can handle the ball in the RAIN!!! Sorry Fromm, you had it coming. Anyway, our offense is a mess. Coley ...???? Out to lunch. Matt Luke...step up. Solve this thing....come on! UGA, a week ago, looked promising...now, not so much. Things happen very quickly in NCAA football. If this offense is not fixed...4 losses...guaranteed. We need a LEADER with some grit and savvy!!!! Call LSU...hire their OC..do something!! My rant for the day.
Now we're about to see what Georgia football is all about. Kirby has to remake this team. We have talent and we're bringing in more talent. But we have to change our mindset. And it starts with the head coach. Our offense has been horrible. we always signed five-star cornerbacks but we need some five-star wide receivers and we need a coach who can develop those guys because we need threats on the outside. And we need a quarterback who can throw the darn football down the field. Well let's get to work guys go dogs
The QB position is the key. Will it be the true freshman, or a transfer. The team will have talent and depth. Receiver corps may even be a strength.
The defense may again be the class of the SEC. QB is now the missing link..
Is there a way to vote down an entire thread?
