I can't imagine that CKS would be foolish enough to name ANYBODY as the starting QB at the beginning of spring practice without benefit of actually watching a few practices.

If we learned nothing else from the CFP it is that a team has to have a QB that can run to be successful. All four of the playoff teams had QB’s that could run. Let’s hope Mr Newman can bring that dimension to our pedestrian offense.

We also learned that very few picks were thrown by those mobile qb’s. There are a lot of elements go in to making a top tier qb. Accuracy, pre snap reads, zone reads and being able to anticipate receiver separation at the point, ball security, mobility, patience in the pocket, leadership, an internal clock and a scheme by the coaches that best suits the qb. I watched 2 quarterbacks last night that were masters at about all these traits. That was an incredible football chess match by each coordinator. Definitely the best 2 teams in college football last night.

And one thing I forgot, you have to have elite receivers that can bail you out and that also reads the blitz and coverages.
