Memories of Athens snow days:
Please share your snow day memories here!!!
It snowed right before spring break my senior year in ‘09. The power went out everywhere including my apartment complex, and there was so much ice that I couldn’t drive anywhere. So I packed a bag, walked the three blocks to my sorority house and lived there for a few days. Several upperclassmen did the same thing. Super fun! Made me feel young again! 😂

For the love of God, PLEASE go to the original Frank Pepe's and post a picture of one of their pizzas! Never thought I'd say I miss Branford, but I sure do miss Pepe's! At least I can live vicariously through you if you go...
Anyone remember Sons of Italy 🇮🇹 pizza place in Athens’ 5 Points area? Their pizzas were fantastic and a cut above the normal chain delivery fare from Domino’s, Pizza Pronto, etc., yet a bit too pricey for the average college students budget. It was quite a treat and splurge back in the day.
Other weekend favorites were the Taco Stand, The Grill, Riverside cafe, El Azteca and Guthrie’s (although they always seemed to be out of chicken fingers, which was the only thing on the menu!)
@CTDawg family had the audacity to say Pepe served them BURNT pizza. I've never seen such disrespect for the char.
Do remember Sons of Italy , maybe only ate there once though. Remember the Boars Head at 5 points also. Went there a little more. Gutherie’ being out of chicken fingers may have been my fault. Sorry. Went there by far the most
Where did you live in branford?? I used to live there too. May have to go grab a Pepe’s pizza today now that you mention it
Listen, friend. They said that about DeLegna
Yes to Sons, Taco Stand, Guthrie's, and the Grill.
Also Loco's, Steverino's, and Five Points Deli.
Got engaged over dinner at DePalma's downtown when I was a law student. It was still pretty new at the time and the best food in town. Haven't been back in years but I gather it has been passed by with lots of high end options in Athens these days.
Taco stand was great I still think about their quesadillas. What was the name of the beer and pizza joint between Creswell and Baxter Street package store?
Yep! Those were all great places. Couldn't beet the Burrito Supreme from the Taco Stand. I preferred the subs from Son's of Italy over their pizza. Stevies, well, drinking beer on the deck on any spring afternoon. Many great places back in the day, but being on a college budget in the early 80's, a bite to eat and a pitcher of beer for under 7 bucks was Heaven....
And yes, the snow days were too much fun while I was there. As I sated before, one reason I don't do the genealogy test......
Ahh, I see it now. Thanks
@AnotherDawg 5 Points Deli had the best chicken salad in the world!!!
Yes!!! That's all I ever got. I think my wife may have married me because of our shared love of Five Points Deli chicken salad.
