One word comes to mind....insanity!!! Salaries have gotten completely out of hand.

Bit surprised by the massive jump in pay for a coach who was a middling assistant just a few short years ago. Not questioning his skill and value (for which the sky seems to be the limit)... but hopefully leap-frogging guys like Monken and Luke (with their long track records and stout credentials) doesn't create dissent, flight risk, and/or contracts gone wild. Reckon if it helps you to get and retain the best talent, keep raising the $$ and passing it along to the staff.

Lanning is 33 years old...$1.25 million! Quite a spike from the previous year...even over Monken....a tested veteran coach in the NFL. Former defensive coordinator Mel Tucker was the only other one to make over $1 mil. at $1.5 mil in 2018. Hefty pay stubs. But to keep the good ones these days you have to pay them royally.....and even then they move onward and upward. Many of these coaches make more than the president of UGA!

Yeah there was a lot of talk of other teams pursuing Lanning since the end of the season. Dawgs likely had to back up the Brinks truck to keep him on staff for the coming year.

ByrdMan….Yes the salaries are very high but they only become insanity if you can't afford to pay them but still give them these types of raises. The haves and the have nots started separating many years ago and the result is a handful of teams appear now every year in the top of the final season polls. Sorta boring really, if your not a Dawg fan! haha

It's like Nick Saban-a really good coach earns his money, which does not look so extreme when compared to professional athletes and movie stars. And remember that these coaches are teaching discipline and functional behavior to many athletes who would otherwise end up in prison.

Pay them or lose them, it's that simple.
