Announcers said the first time since the 1983 final four season to start 6 - 0!
So far, so good. Conference play will tell the tale
The year after Nique left, coincidence?
Yes, UGA would have been even better with him I think. Maybe we could have been the NC State that year? Never know.
So yeah 1983 and now we send our star early to the NBA and go on a run. Coach Durham was here only a few years too.
1983 was my freshman year at UGA and my roommate kept statistics for Coach Durham. Will never forget that miraculous run and the big win over His Airness Michael Jordan and company in Syracuse. Go Dawgs!
Nor the huge win over Chris Mullins and St. John's too!
You had a much better view on that run. I recollect driving through snow in eastern Colorado with a weak AM signal. All news station, the sports report focused on the improbable continued run of the Georgia Bulldogs, Did get back to Athens in time to watch their NC State game at a watch party.
James Banks, Vern Fleming, Terry Fair, Lamar Heard, and Gerald Crosby I recollect as the starting five. Each played their roles to perfection. Kier actually reminds me of Fleming.
And the Dawgs had only gone 9-9 in SEC play (after an undefeated preconference season). I went to Athens airport to greet the team returning from Syracuse that Sunday night. Derrick Floyd was first off the plane wearing the cut down nets around his neck!!!
Saw an interview with Reggie Miller once where he was asked who the most underrated unheralded player he ever played with and his response was Vern Fleming - DGD.
Huge come from behind win in 2nd half takes to 7 and 0 now. Northeastern, while 1 and 4 now, took Syracuse to the wire and lost by 4. The Dawgs trailed at half by 13 as Northeastern was knocking down threes left and right. When second half started the teams traded baskets for a short while before UGA went on a 25 to 2 run to totally reverse the game. Final 76 to 58 (Northeastern scored 45 1st half points!).
Go Dawgs!
SEC slate starts Dec. 30th as next scheduled game is against Mississippi State.
Last time the Dawgs went undefeated prior to SEC slate? You guessed it... 1983 final four team!
Those guys could play a little!
That’s a great graphic. We’re we out-sized or what?
