Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

If you think about it, if enough people get the vaccine then the infected numbers will dramatically be reduced. And that’ll make this virus more manageable.
Good Q - It is both.
Modern society no longer throws babies off the cliff for cleft lip; this is not Sparta. It is wholly immoral to neglect a percentage of the population bc they're less firm or simply older than you.
Many individuals in the young/healthy crowd feel justified by not changing their lifestyle bc there is a very low likelihood they get really sick with COVID-19.
I understand that, and I agree with that belief on a superficial level - It falls apart with second or third level scrutiny.
Why?
Outcomes are not binary.
It is not either recovery or death.
Rather, it is recovery, long term side effects (blood clots, organ damage, scarring in the lungs, oxygen requirements, exacerbation of other chronic illnesses such as diabetes) and then after another 50 other processes until you get to death.
So the Q is who I'm protecting by getting a vaccine Sunday?
Well, my patients for one, my family (parents and in-laws mostly), and any anonymous individual in the community for whom I may infect and potentially harm...Unintentionally and unknowingly.
Individuals who refuse vaccines are generally the same ones who refuse masks and all the other little things we're trying like social distancing that may or may not DO ANYTHING...They're more often than not right of the political center.
Those individuals are good people who love their country and will give you the shirt off their back without Q - Yet they won't buy into COVID-19.
Misinformation right now is at an all time high, seemingly on the level of Germany mid to late 30s...Not calling anyone a Nazi by the way. Not at all...
Mao level propaganda. Pol Pot. Castro.
I am not trying to convince anyone of doing anything.
...it's just that the MAJORITY of "facts" being disseminated right now are both incomplete and poorly-interpreted.
No one should have the right to tell you what to do to your body. That’s why this is all voluntary. Just like the people in our military. They are brave enough to do what others are to weak to do themselves. Protect the ones that can’t protect them selves. So you do what ever makes you feel comfortable.
@Polynikes Thanks for taking the time to answer.
So should we legalize drugs?
No, and won't.
Yes. But with that comes personal responsibility. Not up to me to pay for your habits or rehab.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who skips out on the vaccine...
Darwinism is a beautiful thing...
I agree 100%
Or you get the Covid vaccine, catch the Swine Flu and die anyway. There are dozens of flu viruses floating around all the time. All of them can kill you.
I'm 55 years old. I've got parents that are 85 & 90 years old. I've got two children who have my 5 grandkids from 2 years to 10 years old. I've got a job around people I care very much about who have small children & elder parents and grandparents. And I've got my wife of 35 years. I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I'm around to enjoy them all AND I'm going to be responsible enough to do everything I can to make sure I'M NOT THE ONE that causes any of them to become a casualty of something we can do something about. I've had the flu and I've had pneumonia in 2013. I didn't/wouldn't take the vaccines before I was sick with both. It was a terrible month in my life and I don't ever want to go through it again. Since then, I've taken the flu vaccines every year and the pneumonia vaccines when I'm due. I'll be getting the shingles vaccine soon, too. And when it's available, I'll be getting the COVID vaccine. It's up to each individual. But l love and care about my family enough to do the responsible thing FROM MY POINT OF VIEW. I've got a lot to live for...........plus I want to be around for the Dawgs next National Championship!
Merry Christmas and GO DAWGS!
I mean God forbid I get this and recover like over 99% of people do. I have a better chance of dying in a wreck on the way to get the vaccine than from COVID.
You aren't concerned that you will take this and get it anyway thus providing a false sense of security? From what I have read, there is no guarantee you won't still get the virus.
Percentages...
Anything that changes the percentages in my favor - or our favor - is a good option. Our entire medical system is based on percentages.
Not a fool-proof option - there are few fool-proof options, few 100% paths. But for the life of me I don’t know why people wouldn’t choose a higher percentage path.
Just for perspective’s sake - the 99% stat sounds good until you apply it to 350,000,000 people.
And I am gonna say this - if you’re not a minority, or not over a certain age, or don’t have some health issues, then this is not as scary - I understand. But there are millions of people who are, and our vaccination participation lowers their chances of sickness a ton.
Great post.
If getting the vaccine gets me back to church and serving without bringing the virus home to my diabetic husband, count me in.
Considering COVID-19 is 6x more contagious than the flu, and in people over 70 the mortality is around 10-14%, your church family thanks you as well.
Relative to 18-29 yo adults, mortality in age 50-64 is 30x higher, 65-74 is 90x higher, 75-84 is 220x higher, and 85+ is 630x higher.
Those 65+ individuals are the ones who gave birth to ALL OF US.
And those whose choose to disregard this are candidates for the Darwin Award.
Great Christmas message.
Why do we have to attack people for their beliefs? "Darwinism Award" goes to people who are stup.id and deserve to die, right? Is that what you wish upon the roughly 50% of the population who have reservations about taking the vaccine?
There are a number of very good reasons to take it. There are also some very reasonable objections. Why can't we respect both sides, without resorting to insults?
Not insulting anyone bro. And as far far as a Christmas "message", hope all is very merry with you and the others.
