Fickell is a stand-up guy. He put a very well coached and motivated team on the field tonight. If not for an amazing kick by Pod, they win. The narrative would be vastly different had we not won. Our players did not appear very motivated until the **** by Ojulari. We are out-coached through three quarters. Our team is comprised of nearly as many elite players as they have 3-stars. And we nearly lost!
This Cincinnati team and its fans should be proud of what they accomplished this season and tonight.
@Dawg365 Was going to post something similar, but you beat me to it. The Dawgs won, but it leaves you scratching your head for 2021. Kirby has to prove he can get this team over the hump with his own players.
Here's to a safe offseason for all of us.
First, give credit to the Bearcats. They came out motivated and convinced that they were going to win the game. Attitude will take you a long way. While I do not agree that Georgia was out coached for three quarters; I do agree that Cincinnati is well coached and it showed. That was a team loaded with Seniors on both sides of the ball and it showed.
Georgia was not motivated. You could see it from the time they took the field until the 4th quarter for the offense and 3rd quarter from the defense. And it was Georgia's defense that won this game. The O-line was clearly uncomfortable with two starters out and struggled with communication, especially when Cincinnati blitz. But the defense had basically had enough after the opening drive (one blown play really) that got Cincinnati to 20. From that point forward, their offense really struggled.
Georgia is really-really young at a lot of positions. And it's clear that they will be looking to the portal to find at least one veteran corner to help short up the secondary. And they finally get to see what the #1 safety coming out of high school last year looks like (Ringo).
Wide Receiving group should be lights out, as should the running back group. Just have to figure out the o-line. Daniels threw for nearly 400 yards today, while under constant pressure and frankly with his touch a little off.
I like where Georgia sits for next year. As for Cincinnati; again, nothing but respect. But they lose a LOT and with the job Finkell has done, sooner or later, one of these suitors will come with the right package. They should enjoy having him while they can; and should expect a drop from this year. That program in not a plug and play. They'll slide after having a dream season.
It was a bad decision for Cinn to throw it down the field when they only needed 2 yards to put the game away.
I don’t see anyone saying ; why didn’t you throw it 30 yards down the field if you run it and don’t make it. Most fans wouldn’t question a run when all is needed is 2 yards.
Coaches never admit their mistakes. It’s always someone else’s fault and never their own.
People will look at the score and incorrectly assume that the G5 team proved they belonged in the playoff conversation. That simply is not the case. Despite a shanked punt leading to one score, drive killing turnovers in the plus side of the field, including one in the end zone, a failed 4th down conversion when a single yard was needed, and a blown assignment they led to a 78 yard run when they only gave up 22 the rest of the game, UGA prevailed. Eliminate one or two of those mistakes and the game would have been a 10 point win. Time to put it behind them, congratulate those leaving and start preparing for Clemson in September.
Especially when it eats 40 seconds off the clock, even if they don't make it.
The Cincy coach saved Kirby's bacon throwing it the last drive. They run it and there's no time left. He out-thunk himself.
