The national championship game between Ohio State and Alabama will be DeVonta Smith's final college game for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Well, this former Rooster and Gator loves putting the spurs to the Dawgs. Even though he won the Heisman Trophy after his senior season, it wasn't because he beat the Dawgs. He has never forgotten that.
Only a natty is gonna get us past 2nd-and-26, AND Justin Fields to Ohio State.
But nice jab about Spurrier calling it quits after the 52-20 defeat. That was the same year he tried to fire up his team by ranting about the Atlanta newspapers conspiracy or some nonsense. His gambit didn't work and he hung it up shortly after that loss.
Nowadays, every time the camera points to him in the luxury box during a Florida home loss, looking beleaguered and frustrated like the washed up, retired coot that he is... it just brings a smile to my face.
11-1 against us gives you the right to take jabs. Quitting after an embarrassing loss takes that right away. He’d still be a better coach than Mullen IMO.
I have a "conflicted" position when it comes to the old ball coach. I grew up in Florida and was a huge Gator fan. The only game I actually saw live during that time was Sprrier's last SEC game at Florida Field (The Swamp name came later) when the Gators were taking on a 5-5 Auburn. Spurrier was neck and neck with Bob Griese at Purdue for the Heisman that year (1966). The Gators found the War Eagles had come to play. With the score tied with about 1:38 to play, Spurrier took the Gators down to the Auburn 25 yard line with time about gone. Florida's regular kicker (side winders had not arrived yet) was only capable of reaching for 39 yards. The Gators brought in their long field goal guy to attempt the win. That was His Steveness. He made the kick coming right at me in the end zone and the Gators prevailed as did Spurrier over Griese for the Heisman. After HS graduation in the summer of 1967, the very next day my father was transferred to Athens, GA and I enrolled at UGA that fall. My first year I had some difficulty rooting my all against the Gators (I was still recovering from the 27-10 thrashing the DAWGS had provided in Spurrier's senior season). With the 1968 SEC champion DAWGS, I completed the transition and have never looked back. I must admit though that I have always found Spurrier amusing as a commentator. Let's be real. Professional wrestling has proven the attraction to sport of having an iconic (and amusing) bad guy. Should I outlive him, I will weep at his passing for both the good and bad he offered to this old fan.
My lasting memories of him will be that Georgia is the only team to shut him out and him running with his tail between his legs the last time we played him in Sanford Stadium. He would have knocked down anyone to get off the field after the tail whipping he took that night.
Not sure anyone outside of Gainesville Florida really gives a rats pattuti what SOS thinks.

Great Post!! I am probably among the rarest of Dawgs fans who HATE Florida but I love Spurrier. His little jabs at us are quite entertaining. I took them personally when I was much younger but now I just laugh and one final thing about Spurrier, I don't think he gets enough credit for how he changed offensive football in the SEC. I know he did not originate the 4 and 5 wide receiver concepts but he brought it to prominence more than any other coach in college football. Saban changed recruiting in the SEC but Spurrier changed the game.
Dawg fans, Spurrier said we were playing some kind of Cover 2 against Bama and he didn't understand why. That's so interesting to me because I though having two deep safeties splitting the field was a perfect defense that was just executed poorly. I have always thought cover 2 or Tampa 2 was designed to take away the deep ball. I wonder if he's suggesting he would have played man in that same scenario. Fellow Dawgs who understand defensive schemes better than I do, were we in a bad defensive call or was it poor execution?

He won a slew of SEC championships (6), but only one NC.
All those great teams and only one NC.
UGA must have really hurt Spurrier for him to always make it a point to dish on us! I feel sorry for the man. Hoping he doesn't take that disdain to the grave.
That final play in 2018 still haunts me. Our DBs were average at best that year. Even with the proper coverage, the outcome likely would have been the same. CKS recruited the heck out that position after that horrible loss.

Still remember the last time UGA played Spurrier... We absolutely demolished USC and I think our QB had a record number of consecutively completed passes. Spurrier is a fine coach. He has always regarded the 2 best programs to be a coach in the SEC were LSU and UGA - simply because of the fertile HS recruits. One can only wonder what he could do if he had a roster like the one UGA has now...
September 19, 2015. The Steve Spurrier early retirement party. GEORGIA actually beat Spurrier to submission. He quit. Quitters are LOSERS.
I mean, isn’t he too old to still hold grudges from when he was a player? I hope I’m not that kind of grumpy, tortured soul when I’m an old man. Relax Steve and nobody cares what you think. You’re a dinosaur and the game has passed you by.

The Dawgs have been living rent free in that ****'s head since 1965.
Ruined his dream season in '66, and made him quit in '15.
He held a grudge from his playing days and took it to us as a coach in the '90s, and he HATES knowing that Kirby will be doing the same thing to them for the next 2 decades.
Spurrier is still alive? I didn't know.
