Where did the term ''pods'' come from ?..

As it relates to college football a quick Google search suggests it started a few weeks ago (July 15th) with an article in something called Banner Society that pretty much laid out what many are calling for now. I know I'd never heard it used in relation to CFB before last week. It took 5 guys to write the article, how smart could they be ?

May have been Bill Connelly... another posted shared this before from 2017:

I think it came from Tide detergent
Google search result:
pod (n. 1) "elongated seed vessel of beans, peas, etc.," 1680s, a word of uncertain origin; found earlier in podware "seed of legumes, seed grain" (mid-15c.), which had a parallel form codware "husked or seeded plants" (late 14c.), related to cod "husk of seeded plants," which was in Old English
Glad I don't write dictionaries for a living.
I assumed pods were seed holding vessels (like the ones in Invasion Of The Body Snatchers) and to hold field peas in place till some wisenheimer decided to use the word to replace divisions.I'm not sure where this rates in the long evolution of the English language, but it troubles me.
Porpoises have been traveling in pods ever since I became a marine biologist/ /s
This is true, maybe they are aliens.
I thought you were an architect.😃
"Of my own destiny." Lol
All time Classic!!!
I have heard of it before. From my understanding it is a grouping of teams for scheduling purposes only. It does not determine a teams ranking in terms of the conference championship.
Pods were used very effectively in the 2008 USA golf Ryder Cup victory. Captain Paul Azinger split his 12-man team into 4-man pods based on personality type. During practice and play the golfers only teamed with pod members, resulting in a win for team USA.
A good book about the pod system, useful for business, team building and sports is Azinger’s “Cracking the Code.”
For the golf fans, the “aggressive pod” was led by Phil “never lay up”Mickelson, the “redneck pod” by Kenny Perry, and the “steady Eddies” pod by this year’s captain Steve Stricker.
And for those who don’t follow golf, check out the Ryder Cup on TV Sept 24-26. It’s team USA against Europe in head-to-head high pressure matches.
Top 5 episode.
